    Hi Dr. AAB

Yes, in Canada the first exam an IMG needs to pass is two written MCQs, MCCEE and MCCQE1, then NAC-OSCE which oral doctor-patient encounter. It is after that if you have high scores they will allow you to apply for residency through Carms, which is Canadian residency matching service. Ontario is the best province b/c it has 200 positions only for IMGs every year but other provinces only 5-10 positions a year. I recommend you register with the "Ontario IMG School" course in Toronto, ontario as this course is a great help to pass all the above exams. They prepare you with the teaching sessions and mock exams... a great course.

Do you mean going through the CaRMS match, or being a supranumerary resident outside the match?

(The CaRMS match is restricted to Canadian citizens / permanent residents - the IMG spots that Taruskhan mentions above for IMGs are restricted to Canadians who went to med school outside Canada).

That is true but Canada does have a significant number of Saudi nationals who come for residency training every year, sponsored (read: $$$$$) by their own government, and then return home. I'm not sure the details on that and how it works but he should find those out for himself and see if he is eligible to do it. If he is applying for the regularly posted IMG positions then he does have to be a Canadian PR or citizen.

I'm going to assume that you are not a Canadian citizen, and are applying for one of the positions that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia sponsors for Saudi nationals to do post-grad training at Canadian universities. As you probably already know, you need to apply through the Saudi cultural bureau for one of these spots. These residency spots are sometimes referred to as "supernumerary" (e.g. extra or additional).

Unless there is another Saudi student currently doing residency in Canada on this board, I don't think anyone will be able to tell you what your odds are of getting a spot. In 2010, 78 Saudi nationals were accepted into various Canadian residency training programs across Canada. But since none of us know how many applied (and were not chosen), we won't be able to guess how hard it is to succeed.

Also: yes, rheumatology is 5 years.

    Hi.

This is really important. You DO NOT have to go through all the exams that an earlier poster mentioned. You are called a 'gulf sponsored' national and there are special spots reseverd only for you. UAE, Saudi etc. pay A LOT for you to be given a spot. Contact your cultural attache in the embassy in Ottawa and they should have the answers for you. I don't know any Saudi's personally enough to give you their name here, but I have a very good friend from UAE and his brother was the cultural attache in Washington. He ended up in Germany, but we learned a lot about the process. I've also met 2 Saudis here and they said the same thing. Most universities - not all - have these designated positions. Dalhousie has the largest number - like 18. Or it was a couple of years ago. The point is that it isn't 1. So, you are only competing against these gulf sponsored people. I think you only need to do the EE - nothing else. Definitely contact the embassy. Good Luck. S-

Well, those coming from Saudi arabi , and other arabic countires and their residency funds are paid by their own government are different from those that we call IMGs living in Canada who want to stay and live in Canada. Those coming from Saudi, etc sponsored by their own govermnment, have to go back to their countires and can't stay and work in Canada and they have a different quote abnd enter through a pathway called PEAP. But in my previous message when I talk about IMGs spot in Ontario being 200 spots, I meant those who are Canadian reisdents and will stay and work in Canada. These people have to pass MCCEE, MCCQE1 and NAC-OSCE before being able to enter the Carms match

    Hi Dr. ABB
That course is called "Ontario IMG School" and you can search it by google and find the website which is I think just the same words dotcom. The cost is $1600 for one semester and they offer excellent exam-oriented teachings. They have 2 semester (winter and summer) and I think thier winter course will start in January. Make sure you don't miss the deadline of registration,...
