Canadian Royal College Internal Medicine Exam

Did anybody pass or is anyone preparing for the Canadian Royal College Internal Medicine exam? I am a canadian foreign grad, I did my residency in the states and I passed the American Board of Internal Medicine, but I failed the Canadian exam on my first attempt. I need advice re: books to read, how to prepare, especially for the oral exam. Also, are there any prep courses? Please help...

Help for IM exam spring 2007

    Advertisements

I am a former Canadian medical school graduate who completed my IM training in the US. I am planning to sit for the spring 2007 Royal College IM exam. I would appreciate any help in getting access to old questions/scenarios and some recommendations on study guides. It is my understanding that this exam is much tougher than the one administered by the ABIM. Thanks.

wondering if you would be able to pass on the old exams for internal medicine from canada. I am board certified in US, starting a cardiology fellowship but need to keep my J1 status and wanted info on the canadaian exam.

I'm very glad to see so many Canadian students are finishing up and returning home! ... I'm a starter and I would appreciate if anyone can inform me a little more.

    1. If you pass Step 1,2,3 and ABIM in the U.S. and try to pass the RCCI.M., can you practice in Canada right away or is their anymore obstacle?

    2. I heard that some people got problems getting a letter from Health Canada in order to apply for J1... How was it for you, and how doable is it?

    3. If I do familly medicine instead of I.M., would that help me to get back a little easier since F.M. in the U.S. is longer ?

    thanks guys!

    cheers!!

If you pass all USMLEs and ECFMG Certificate, and you pass the RCPSC in Internal Medicine, you can get a licence in Ontario. The other provinces require both RCPSC and the LMCC (you have to do all EE, QE I and QE II). You also have to find a job.
    2. Problems?...for example?
    3. The length of the Family Medicine program does not make it easier to get a licence in Canada. You still have to do the MCC exams, and you have to write the Canadian family medicine exam in Spring of PGY3 (in addition to the USMLEs and the American Board of Family Practice exam). What will be much easier is finding a job in Family Medicine because all provinces have a big shortage.
    account no longer in use.

Thank you so much for your answer and help!

Concerning the J1... someone on this furum states that it would be difficult to get a letter from the Health department in Canada (which is required by the U.S. government to issue a J1) ... Have you had problem getting this letter, and if so how does the process work?

I'm writing the Step 2 soon and I wonder if I have Step 1, 2 CK and CS and MCCEE 1 under my belt, it would be enough to get a family practice residency in Canada ?

    thanks again!
