    Hello everybody,
I`m a fresh graduate from a medical school in Baghdad-Iraq, I graduated like couple months ago and I am newcomer in Canada, I don`t know what to do and how to start, some people said I have to do a year of medical residency outside Canada before starting the MCCEE, other are saying I don`t need that year or training and I here I am in need of a professional advice please.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you a Canadian citizen / permanent resident?

    If yes, continue.

Did you graduate from an international medical school listed with the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) published by the Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER)?

    If yes, continue.

Have you written or are you scheduled to write the MCCEE before January 2012?

If yes, then you can apply to first iteration the 2012 CaRMS match. If you write the MCCEE during 2012, you're generally looking at the 2013 match. Details here: http://www.carms.ca/eng/r1_support_e.shtml#Examinations

You need to pass the MCCEE before you can apply to CaRMS. Some schools (e.g. Ontario) require particular schools (above and beyond just a pass). Read about it and apply here: http://www.mcc.ca/en/exams/ee/

What province do you live in?

Further criteria for IMGs to participate in the CaRMS match are listed by province.
    CaRMS - (R-1) - Eligibility - Provincial Restrictions
Most residency positions for IMGs include a return-of-service contract, and there is often a pre-residency vertification program required of IMGs, and satisfactory TOEFL scores may be required.

I can't imagine why you would. Canada doesn't recognize partial residency training done outside of the country, and in the case of US training it would make you ineligible for the first round CaRMS match.

However, you MUST contact the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland. You must be eligible for (educational) licensure with them to do residency in Newfoundland - make sure that your credentials will be acceptable!

    Hi Sirus
With MCCEE it is less likely you match in Carms b/c a lot of IMGs have it. You need to pass MCCQE1 and NAC-OSCE to make your chance better. I suggest also you register with a prep course like "Ontario IMG School' or Kaplan b/c they help you apprach your goal faster.
    Good luck

    Hi,

I think that confusion here is that every province has its own process. Newfoundland's process is for 'practice ready' people. So, if you have work experience after graduation, then you enter their img program (not part of carms), thye assess you for a year with provisional license, then full license. But that is Newfoundland. That is definitely not the case for Ontario. They have a good web-site though. S-

Ontario, is still the best, b/c it has up to 200 positions for IMGs every year and almost one out of 3 who apply for it they get residency spots, while other provinces only 5-10 positions a year. Also Toronto is a multicultural city that you never feel isolated, but other provinces a new immigrant feels very isolated,...
