Help Regarding getting a residency position in canada

    Advertisements

Hey all , i am a Canadian green card holder currently studying in the middle east in a university which is accredited by the FAIMER website and all , and it the system here is a 6-year system and i am currently in my 5th year .

I am willing to go to Canada after i finish since i am aiming at getting a surgery position at a respected institute in Ottawa, Vancouver or Montreal.

    I have a couple of questions :

    1. What is the procedure for getting a Canadian License , i know there's an mccee and mccq1 and mccqe2 but i don't know the chronological order of these exams ..... so can i like take MCCEE and get a position only according to that and after am hired i take MCCQE or what? So basically i need to know how long the process takes from the first exam till i am hired ?

    2. Being a Canadian IMG , what are my chances of getting a Surgery residency in any of the above-mentioned areas ?

    3. What are the recommended books for studying for the exams and is it any harder that USMLE Step 1 or 2

your chances are very slim, try for surgery in USA. Also there is a new exam in Canada which you need to do. SO first you do MCCEE, then the new exam which you have to do NAC-OSCE, then CE-1 for ontario or manitoba which will take 6 month. also look at the number of Canadians studying medicine abroad is 3500 of them. If I was you, I would finish with your school. Do USMLE step 1, step 2, step 3 , by 2015 you will match if you do 24 weeks of externship (6month of US clinical experience). in Canada by 2020 you will match But always look on the bright side, USA is a very good option.

Ok but for example i got a friend who has a us GREEN CARD , would his chances also be good for surgery???

Which hospitals do you recommend for elective in the USA that do not charge literally thousands for an elective?? and what are your sources of the "1000%" :P ?

Green card same thing too 1000% i know this because I am one of them. Hospitals will better word is Universities. I recommend any University in California since they are very liberal on IMG elective, but try externship companies, if you want to spend like 6000$.

Also in both path you need to spend money so start saving from now
