    MCCEE and J1 visa Question?

    Advertisements

    Hey guys,

I'm a medical student in the UK, Canadian/British dual citizen. I grew up in Canada, did my BSc in Ontario and now am in England doing MD.

    I graduate May-July, 2012.

I'm applying Sept.1, 2011 for NRMP match in the U.S. I want to do my residency on J1 visa.

I know that MCCEE is required for J1 visa. My question is, how strict is Health Canada on when I do my MCCEE in order to get the statement of need?

I read that MCCEE has to be done within 9 months of my graduation.

I apply on writing it Sept, 2011. I graduate May-July 2012. I'm not sure exactly when I get my official diploma, because we get our exam results early May, but I think I may get my M.D. diploma in July?

Is that an issue then? Since July, 2012 is 10 months away from September, 2011, not 9. Obviously, I know I could do the MCCEE in October, but I have my ***** then and am very busy, and I may have to go to the U.S as well for interviews in October.

So ideally Sept, 2011 would be best. Also because I am doing USMLE Step 2 CK around August, which will help for MCCEE.

A reply would be appreciated, thanks.

Hey how about applying to the match as a Brit., and avoiding the Canadian stuff all together, especially since U have dual citizenship.

Also, have U considered doing your specialist training in the UK,..I know U can still work in Canada with specialist training in the UK.

Also, You might not be able to get the specialty U want in the US, since you 're applying as an IMG.

Also, keep in mind that the whole point of making U do the MCCEE is to force u to apply to the Canadian match, before the US match. (to fill canadian spots, mainly family medicine)

I guess they 're trying to stem the number of Canadians running across the border for residencies, ...while at the same time making it hard for IMG's to return to Canada.
