    Left overs?

    Advertisements

    Hi everyone,

I was just checking out the statistics on CaRMS and noticed that there are always few family medicine slots unfilled even after second iteration. What happens to them? Do they just simply go unfilled or do they eventually get filled out of match by IMGs? With competition so stiff amongst IMGs in the second iteration, I don't understand how these positions go unfilled unless the programs decided that they rather have them unfilled than to have them go to IMGs.

    Any takers?

I also wonder what do happen to them. My guess is they still go unfilled. Even if they will be filled, they are most likely to be filled by unmatched Canadian graduates rather than IMG's. I have seen unmatched Canadians get positions even after the second iteration. Never heard of that for an IMG. Most universities would consider their candidates that go unmatched. An IMG that goes unmatched will simply have to keep on trying year after year or try any of the other provincial programs.
