    stats

about 40k applications for about 12k spots how competitive is that?

no chance unless you donate a building to the school anything below 3.0 and 22 mcat
to get on a waiting list 3.3 gpa, 28 mcat and gool lor's
to have your **** licked to go with scholarships and all 3.8+ and 40 mcat

anything else is in between. also there are differences in schools and what their average admin stats are. i beleive howard univ has the lowest admin standards.

    i dunno about canadian schools

    GPA!!!! GPA!!!

It depends upon your undergraduate school's reputation. If you're from a school with an average reputation you probably need to maintain a 3.8 to get into med school. If you're from an Ivy League, or a Stanford or a Duke you could get by with slightly lower GPA like a 3.6. You're major really doesn't matter, it's your grade point average. You could major in a liberal arts field and acheive a high GPA and go to med school and you could major in molecular biology get a low 3.0-3.3 GPA and not get into med school. As long as you take the required premed courses you are set. My MCAT instructor did her undergrad in Liberal Arts and got into some solid schools. Canadian schools are quite difficult to get admission to versus other non US schools but there are two main advantages, you get equivalent US style training and you pay lower tuition and fees, even international students in Canada pay a fraction of what US students pay at private US schools. Judging by statistics Canada might be easier to get admission to than a US school. One average US school gets 9000 applications, out of that they interview 1000 students, and they offer admission to a little over 100 of the interviewees, which is an acceptance rate of slightly more than 1 percent! A Canadian school I looked at admits one in four applicants but the average incoming GPA was like 3.7. The US school I mentioned before has an average GPA of 3.6, which means they turn away a lot of academically qualified people.
