Hey I live in USA but am originally from Plovdiv. The city is not bad, depending on where you live. I recommend getting an apt in the downtown area, it is more safe. I had a friend that went to the medical school in Plovdiv and I remember him telling me that the medical school in Sofia is much better than the one in Plovdiv.

More resources and better specialists, more opportunity for working outside of school. Enough said.

All medical schools in Bulgaria are pretty much as good as they can be in...Bulgaria.
I'm studying in Plovdiv, 2nd year in one month, and I heard a lot from different people about the quality and differences between the med school's of Bulgaria.
As far as I'm concerned, Sofia could be better because it is a BIGGER city and has MORE hospitals in which you can have your clerkship. There might be some minor differences between schools in Bulgaria but they all have the same curriculum and I guess that you can find both bad and good teachers in each one of them.

Bottom line: Going to Sofia's medical school is better than going to another med school in Bulgaria, but it won't do any miracles. Moreover you have to think about other parameters, including: cost of living, crime etc.
The cost of living in Sofia is pretty much the same as in Plovdiv, but if you're on a tight budget, you should expect higher rents and a higher cost in transportation(in Plovdiv, distances are smaller and the taxi is MUCH cheaper than in Sofia).
Crime in Plovdiv is WAY lower than in Sofia.
Sofia is a bigger city, a capital, and that means something too.

If you have any more questions about Plovdiv and MU-Plovdiv, just ask.

    More hospitals.
    More specialists.
    More money.
    More faculty.
    More patients.

    (Nope, arista29 is not Greek.)

Agencies don't offer you anything, so you really could have saved money by applying on your own.
Applying is the easiest thing in the world when it comes to Bulgarian and Romanian universities, SIMPLY because...nobody gets rejected.Agencies advertise themselves a lot by telling people that their "candidates" had a 100% success in admissions!Bu*lpooh pooh.Personally, I gathered the necessary documents in one day, had them translated in 3-4 days, submitted them to the Uni and that's it.Went back to Plovdiv 4-5 days before the beginning of the academic year, filled another document and they just gave me the weekly schedule for the 1st semester.

If you need any info regarding the university or the city of Plovdiv, I'll be more than happy to answer.

Not get rejected? do they not have grade requirements or any of that sort?
When is the deadline for applications for plovdiv, also where is the best / safe place close to uni for accomodation?

    Thanks
