    The correct answer is D. GLUT is an abbreviation for glucose transporter, and describes a family of sugar transporters with varying distribution and activity. GLUT 4 is found in fat, skeletal muscle, and heart, and mediates insulin-stimulated glucose uptake. Insulin acts to translocate the GLUT 4 to the plasma membrane.

    GLUT 1 (choice A) is found in red blood cells, brain microvessels, kidney, colon, and other cells. It is thought to be part of the blood-brain barrier and may limit glucose transport into the brain.
