    X ↔ Y
    3.4
    Y ↔ Z
    +5.7
From the values of ΔG0′ given in the table, which compound in the overall metabolic pathway V ↔ W ↔ X ↔ Y ↔ Z will accumulate in the largest amount at equilibrium?

i think the answer is D) substance Y...looking at the magnitude and direction of the equations ...X --> Y is heavily favored (negative and large) and Y--> Z is heavily not favored (positive and large)...as a result Y would build up....

If people are thinking W we can see that V--> W is heavily favored and W --> X is only slightly not favored... if we add the two equations together we see that V --> X is spontaneous and as a result W will not build up.

However, if we add the two equations of X--> Y and Y -->Z together we see that X--> Z is not spontaneous...as a result the intermediate Y will build up
