I need some recent facts about this school

    Advertisements

Hello guys, I was thinking of applying here, but I'm looking for some recent, up to date facts, particularly on the USLME pass rates along with the residency placement rates. Does anyone have any data on how many people actually pass the exams and the kind of residencies that the school has managed to land for students recently in the U.S. and Canada (I already saw the residency match list on the avalon website, but it doesn't really go into details about how many people of the class got into what, and it also doesn't say what year). Also how good of a school is this? I applied to the SGU premed also, but the cost of the school has me second guessing it. If I can still get into a decent residency from Avalon, I would much rather go here and not have to take on that huge debt.

I was in the exact same situation as you, accepted at SGU but it was too expensive. I took a trip down to Curacao and made a visit to each school and decided on St. Martinus University. I can't say much about Avalon other than it's a cute school next to the Ritz hotel. I think your best bet is to call the school and ask admin. While St. Martinus also didn't provide a lot information on residency/clinical rotation, I did meet a few people who had gone to SMUFOM and who were attending SMUFOM and they said nothing but good things. I know that wasn't much help but good luck and maybe see you on the island.

Thanks torontoguy. Btw, what year are you in currently? And since you're at St. Martinus, do you think you could answer the questions i just asked (substitute where i said avalon with st. martinus)

    thanks

I'm starting this Sept. As for your questions, I'm not the person you should ask. I'll pvt msg you as this an Avalon thread and don't want to cause any issues.

Avalon University is a smaller school especially in comparison to S.G.U, but students at Avalon are performing well on their medical licensing exams and are getting into residencies once they graduate.

The best thing to do is call the Avalon U.S admissions office for more information. I'm sure if you wanted to speak with any current students, or speak with graduates in residencies the admissions office will give you the contact information.

im in my 3rd year, school is great...recently passed the USMLE and now doing my clinical rotations. There are good students and poor students, typical of any caribbean medical school, so my advise is to study super hard and frequently use the faculty to clarify things that you may have difficulty understanding...they are knowledgeable and approachable.

Surprised at how Avalon has been able to keep their faculty for such a long time - huge turnover at other caribbean schools (at least the librarian isn't teaching path )
