    financial aid

Can someone explain the financial aid situation at this school? I know that there are no federal loans available at this school. What are the circumstances for previous loans? Are they usually deferred while going to this school? Do people get jobs during their rotations? or is that even possible?? The lady that I called at the school was not particularly helpful, or seemed as if she didn't know what I was asking. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

So, here's what I know about the school's financial aid stuff. For the details, try calling the school office in Ohio.

They have a private loan available with a 9% interest rate, but it can only be used for educational fee's. You need a co-signer, since you won't have an income while in school.

For previous educational loans there is no deferment. I don't have any previous private loans, so I don't know how you can get out of that. However, for my federal loans from undergrad, I was able to get a forbearance by calling them. I have interest accruing on that loan, but I don't have to pay it down yet, and it doesn't affect my credit score, which, to me, is a big deal.

From what I've heard, it's possible to get a job during clinical rotations, but it's hard since you have to put your hours into your rotation AND study. I haven't heard of many people who do it.

For the basic sciences, you can't get a job on the island, so I think it's kinda impossible to get a job.

    I hope that was helpful.

Avalon university does have an association with a private loan company. So I think that will fund the students’ education of this university.

Unfortunately no, it is not a title IV school. Keep in mind that this status has nothing to do medical education accreditation. It is a status indicating whether or not the school qualifies for U.S. Federal financial aid. The only Caribbean medical schools that have this status that I know of are AUC, SGU, and Ross, and even those only qualify because they have been around for about 20+ years. The school can get you in contact with a private loan company though.
