    Advertisements

If you are interested in applying to the University of Sydney Medical School, applications for the February 2013 intake are now open.

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad and Sydney Medical School are working together to facilitate the application process for North American students.

    Program Overview
    • A total of 310 students are admitted into the Sydney Medical School each year,
    including 80 international students
    • Program Length: 4 years
    • Program commencement: February 2013
    • Cost: $60,960 AUD annual tuition

    Entry Requirements
    • GPA: 2.7/4.0 or a 70% average and Bachelor’s degree in any field
    • MCAT
      • Minimum MCAT score of 24M with an 8 in each category
      • Must have taken it within the last 2 years
      • MCAT must be complete prior to applying, as the MCAT results are a required part of the application.
    • Multiple Mini Interview (MMI)
      • International applicants who meet the minimum GPA requirement and the minimum MCAT cut-off may be invited for an interview. Starting for the 2013 intake, Sydney will now be ranking applicants based on their MCAT scores to determine who gets an offer of interview.
      • Students will be notified by mid-July, via email, if they have an offer for an interview. Interviews will be conducted via Skype.

    • Overall selection will be based on the following:
    1. Academic record/GPA
    2. MCAT results
    3. Multi mini interview (MMI) results
    4. Applicants will then be ranked on the basis of their MCAT performance (50%) and their MMI performance (50%)

    How to Apply
Interested students should apply via the GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Degrees Overseas website. Contact GlobaLinks Learning Abroad to receive a copy of the application.

Thanks for your response Dumbo123. Internships (or ‘Residencies’ here in North America) are, in my opinion, the biggest challenge and also the biggest issue to be aware of when studying medicine abroad as in most cases that I’m aware of residencies/internships are never guaranteed for international medical graduates. This includes all of the Medical Schools in Australia as well. They do not guarantee residencies for international students. In Australia the rankings of who gets residency spots are determined by each state where the medical schools reside. So where international medical graduates fit within this ranking, and therefore their chances for residency, can actually change from state to state depending on where they place their international medical graduates in the ranking system that year.
