Applying from Canada and need advice!

    Advertisements

    Hi all,

I'm currently an undergrad in my 3rd year at the University of Toronto. Let me tell you something about Medical schools in Canada. To get in, one needs to defy all odds. The competition here is so intense that people with the most impressive marks (both in the MCAT and overall GPA) do not get accepted. And I truly mean people with high-quality, tip-top marks. The MCAT is a killer, all the time and money wasted, the countless amounts of studying result in ZIP! That is why most of my friends and I are setting our sights overseas. My brother-in-law (an Echocardiologists) recommended Caribbean Medical schools as they are, in comparison to US and Canada, easier to get into. We came across All Saints and with my knowledge and qualifications I should have no problem with admissions. So, there I was extremely happy that I had found an alternative to this otherwise complicated and tortuous admission requirement that define Canadian/US medical schools...until I came across this forum.
From the looks of it, ASUM does not have a prestigious reputation, is mocked upon and furthermore is NOT RECOGNIZED IN MOST STATES!

So I ask for advice from any good Samaritan out there about the best (and yes I mean the crème of the crop) medical schools of the Caribbean; which school would best suit my interests? Which one offers the best MD programs not only recognized here in Canada and the US but is on the same level with our system in terms of knowledge learned? What are the John Hopkins and Harvard of the Caribbean? Or should I just stick to ASUM?

Any advice is greatly appreciated and will warrant a Christmas card courtesy of me. =)

There seems to be a consensus that St. George's, Ross, AUC, and Saba, are the top schools in the caribbean. St. Matthews, AUA, and MUA Nevis also seem to be some up and coming schools.. The rest are risky options.

    Hope that helps!
