    surfing and windsurfing

check out windyreef.com on Galion beach. click on translate and then gallery to see the local conditions. go to windguru.com to get the local wind and wave forecast.

The shop rents (and probably sells) equipment and it is probably the best location for various watersports. It is a beautiful safe cove that few tourists know about just south of Orient bay. THe husband and wife owners (professional windsurfers) are French, but are very friendly and helpful (even to Americans!!). They teach surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing for beginners. Great place to relax after exams and learn a new skill. Don't understand why I didn't see any AUCer there on the weekend.

The dirt road leading to it does not identify it as going to Galion beach but is the one immediately south of the one leading to Orient bay. It has lot of potholes. You pass the butterfly farm to the right. Look for Fanatic flags on the right at the end of the road for their location. THe waves are tradewind driven so they are there everyday. Can store you windsurfing rigs there if you bring your own, so you don't have to haul them around in the car.

You can also try Wind Adventures at Orient Bay. They do mostly kiting and windsurfing, but they do have a surfshop as well. Surf Ace in Marigot probably has the best selection. It is located close to Marina Royale. Prices are in euro, but I believe their cash exchange rate to USD is better than the bank rate.

Still looking for a surfboard on a student budget?

    Hi,
Came across your posting. My bf is selling his surfboard:
    $275 includes board + bag + leash
Board is an Al Merrick Channel islands flyer 2 measuring 6'3"

He's had it for 5 years but it is in good condition with a couple of small dings.

For more info on the board call 956-642-6266 (Eddie)

There also used to be a surf shop in Cole Bay that was selling both custom and 2nd hand boards, on the main rd, Soul Seeker I think it was called. Nice bunch of guys.

Le Galion is pretty cool, but its a bit of a long paddle, and you have the crowds to deal with. There are a lot of other spots that are as good, only less crowded.
