    Temporarily stay with AUC student

    Advertisements

Hey im coming to the island in two weeks to prepare for my first semester at AUC and was wondering if I can temporarily stay with another student who already has a house until I find my own.

It is difficult for me to talk to the realtors over email and would like to go there and see where I will be living before I sign a year lease. I will pay for the time I spend there of course. I hope to find housing within a week as this is my main purpose of arriving in advance of the beginning of the fall semester.

Sorry, not gonna be here, but I'm sure someone would be willing to offer if they're staying.

Someone did post an open invitation recently. You may look through the threads on Sept2009 and Jan2010. I probably saw it in one of those sticky notes.

I don't think anyone is renting any rat holes but I know for me, I decided that I wanted a 1 BR over a studio because I figured I would probably get tired of sitting on the bed after a few weeks and would prefer to at least have a couch, and I didn't want to get stuck paying $1800 a month for a 1 BR. I haven't seen any threads that said "watch out for . . . " but several people have posted their woes about washer/dryer problems when they didn't get one in their apartment. The other thing I noticed is that not all places have air conditioning in the entire apartment, some are just in the bedrooms, not the living room.

Good luck, you won't be homeless for long. There are still things available but you may end up having to drive to school.

Most studios also have a couch. Most apartements here only use the equivalent of window units, one over the bed and one in the living room or its studio equivalent. So not very efficient and very expensive if you run them all day. Many students only use the A/C at night due to the cost.

You could just stay at the Summit Motel... it's right in AUC's backyard. You could nearly fall out a window of one of the Summit apartment/motel rooms and fall into the faculty parking lot. When I came down I stayed at the Summit until I found a place to live. They are fairly reasonable if you tell them you are an AUC student and you need to stay there temporarily until you find a place to live. And if you like suites or one-bedrooms, they may even have availability for something long-term. Depending on who you talk to... I would think you could expect to pay about $60-80 per night while staying as a student motel guest... but staying there long-term is around $1000-1200 per month from what I can remember.
