Becon Hill is not really the safest area to live. There is no need to sign a lease in advance in this area. There are always plenty of places available in Beacon Hill, and for much less than 1300.

For living off campus try Point Pirouette, and for 1300, there are some very nice options available in Point Pirouette.

For 1300, there are lots of places closer to campus and safer/more convenient for school.

Dr Fraud...thank you for your less than stellar input. I'm not sure if you're the delegated board police, but I would appreciate it if you could take your criticism to another thread where it might be more helpful.

I have lived in one of these apartments for 2 semesters, and it is VERY safe. We have a large wall and gate, good watch dogs, and extremely friendly neighbors. Never once have I heard, read, or seen anything about crime in the vicinity of my house. However, having read the paper every day, I would say that there is a much higher rate of crime closer to campus where the students (students=cash) are in a much higher concentration...but i wouldn't go onto someone's classified ad and trash it for talking about being safe with "security guards" (who sleep all night) and gates (that are often open/broken). So, again, please take your ill-advised "advice" elsewhere.

    Beacon Hill is ABSOLUTELY safe.
Personally, I think a large (~800sq feet) new apartment with nice furnishings (not wicker crap), free interent, free satellite television, and a large fenced in grass yard is worth every bit of my $1300. Apparently two other students do too as they live there as well.

I have seen all of my friends places around campus ranging from $1200-$1400... This apartment is MUCH nicer than any of theirs, IMO. Again, it is located about 5 to 7 minutes (at most) from campus...so for some people it may not be an option. But if you plan on getting a car or coming to the island with a pet, I highly reccomend giving this apartment a look.

    Oh, and there is also
    • no lease or paper work that is signed.
    • no first/last months rent
    • no deposit for anything
Beautiful and ready to move in. Here are a couple more pictures from the top balconies and a picture of the yard.

Well, having crime within the vicinity of your house and calling Beacon Hill very safe are two different things. FYI - I've lived in St. Maartin for 2 years and dealt with student safety issues often, and like it or not, the area you are promoting as safe has a less than stellar record with regard for student crime.

Your claim that you've only read about problems close to campus is validation that you are being deceptive as if you truly did follow reports about crime you would have to acknowledge the reports about problems in Beacon Hill.

For any student who would like to verify areas that have a good or not so good record, all that needs to be done is contact the AUC student housing office. There are many safe areas in St. Maartin and around campus. Beacon Hill unfortunately is not as safe as the other alternatives availible.

The AUC spouses organization, http://www.valuemd.com/auc-sticky-fo...meone-you.html, as well as the SGA (i dont have their contact info) can also provide guidance.

I have absolutely no reason to be "deceptive" and resent your calling me so....I'm simply stating from my own personal experience. I gain absolutely nothing from someone renting this apartment...I'm just trying to help a fellow student find a nice place to live. Again, I have never heard, read, or seen anything crime-related around my house...but have heard first-hand experience of such around campus. However, this is not to say one is safer than the other as St. Martin is what it is--a Caribbean island. You are no safer in Pt. Pirouette, Solutions apartments (around campus), etc... and anyone who tells you so is disingenuous.

I live here myself, and would never offer it up to someone if I didn't think it was safe. Your devotion to defacing me and this classified post is malicious and uncalled for.

To prospective students: please do use the facilities and guidance of the spouses organization (a few of whom live by me-gasp)... I think they would have the most unbiased opinions/help.

Again, goodluck with everything and PM me, or ask questions in this thread if you have any... happy hunting.

I have put together some detailed maps of where the apartment lies in relation to the school, the route one would take to get to school, and exactly how to get to the apartment in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. If interested...just let me know!

    Beacon Hill

Beacon Hill has crime problems...so does Cupecoy, Maho and most other areas. I have lived in Beacon Hill for over two years with no problems. However, I do know people who have had problems in Beacon Hill and elsewhere. To single out Beacon Hill as a problem area is unfair. Many AUC students live there and continued to live there.

Very good point. It might seem like I'm singling out BH, but that is not my intention. Whether it seems fair or not, some areas have had more problems than others, and my experience with the various areas is clearly different, as Beacon Hill had more problems than others. I was not trying to single out BH, I was responding to the claim below by stillycowboy when I posted.....

This in my opinion is misleading, and this is not a fair or honest statement.

    Dr Fraud,

The Classifieds section is hardly the appropriate place to get feelings off your chest regarding a certain area. And calling the poster "deceptive" is ridiculous, unfounded, and completely uncalled for. In my opinion, and that of other people that live in Beacon Hill, calling it safe here IS a fair and honest statement. Everyone has different viewpoints, and posting yours on a classifieds ad under the guise of "informing people" is arrogant and egocentric. I suggest you try the "banter" section.

That being said, everywhere on this island will have some crime, it is technically a third world country. We have lived here for a year now with no problems.

Cupecoy is actually a big target for crime because that is the area that is polluted with "rich" American medical students, and in case the thieves get caught, an escape to the French side is just around the corner from there.

Everyone can make an informed decision for themselves on where to live, please leave the classifieds section for availabilities and sale items only.
