Looking for Roommate to Share 2/3 Bedroom Apartment in French Lowlands

    Advertisements

I'm looking for a roommate or two (male or female) to share this apartment. It sounds great:

    • Close to AUC (2.4 miles-- a 7 minute drive)
    • Private parking
    • Large pool and outdoor terrace
    • Free laundry room
    • Fully furnished and equipped apartment
    • Satellite TV with 100s of channels
    • Formerly a privately owned villa converted to 6 apartments all of which are occupied by AUC students

Cost: $2000 base rent plus $30 for cable and $200 per person for utilities. For 3, it's $886 per person, for 2, $1230. Although on the French side, this landlady will take her payment in dollars, so we won't have to deal with the euro exchange rate.

I do need a quieter setting for studying since I get distracted if there's a lot of sound going on and I'm allergic to pets-- those are my only major qualifications.

Please email me at thlefer (at) yahoo dot-com if you're interested. I'm planning to sign the contract this week.

    utilities

if this is the villa/house i am thinking of, isn't there like a $200 per person automatic utilities charge???? I don't know about the avg. person, but i run my AC at night in my 2 bd. and only have about a $150 bill each month. If we were paying an automatic utility charge that would be a $400 electric bill each month and a complete waste of $$$. What is the utility policy at this place?

yeah, this is the place w/ the $200/person/mo... have a friend that lives over there right now and he said that you can't possibly use that much electricity... not bad of a view though

is the "utilities included" part covered for 3 people or 2 people? since the owners might snap on another 200 for the 3rd person

    Hi Mattie,

I've emailed the landlady about this to figure out what's going on. Once I hear back from her I'll post what I learn. It wasn't clear to me when I spoke to her earlier that there is a utilities charge, but if there is, that is a little bit of a bummer and I was mistaken in my earlier post. I suppose then the cost for 3 roommates would be 2700? Which would make it 900 a person including utils.

This still seems like a good deal for a big furnished apartment with amenities and so close to campus. Cheaper and better than dorms in my opinion since you can get fast internet, there's a pool, a nice view, it's located in a safer, quieter part of the island, and you don't have to move half-way through the year.

Let me know if you're interested and if you'd still be able to do it if we weren't to find a third roommate.

    apt utilities

    Hey Theadore,
If this is the same lady that i talked to, i think it's $200/person, so for 3 people it would actually be $2500 + $600 = $3100/month.
I think we could keep our bill at $200/month easily, esp. during the winter/spring months when you don't run any air at all.
Anyway, if she has changed her policy please let me know.
    Thanks

    re: apt utilities

    Hi Mattie,

Until I hear back from Shakila, I won't know for sure-- but here's what she said in her first email to me after I spoke with her on the phone:

"Total rent based on 2 people is as follows: $ 2500 total including utilities and cable."

It's vague (we'll know more as soon as she responds), but if utils are included but charged per occupant at 200 each, then I assume it means 2500 for 2 and 2700 for 3.

    Update on 3 bedroom apartment

I just received this from the landlady today:

"The breakdown of the 3 bedroom apartment is as follows:
    • $2000 per month rent
    • $200 per person utilities (inludes water, electricity, and gas)
    • $60 per month cable
    • total $2660 divided by 3 is $886 per person if 3 are renting
    • If 2 are renting its $1230 per person."

    I hope you're interested.

    picture

Hi, I posted a picture from the roof of the building taken by Scott Levitt. The apartments are apparently quite nice. What you'd expect. The washing machine is free to use (vs. a lot in the dorms), and according to the landlady there's a plasma tv and lots of other stuff there. She even offered to supply the blankets and sheets.
