1 BR apartment in Rising Sun available NOW

    Advertisements

    Hi everyone,
I'm leaving AUC in 5 days, and have been informed today that in order to get my security deposit back, I need to find someone to take my place next semester. If you are moving somewhere before the summer semester or coming in as a new student, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider taking my place. In order to get my deposit back, I now have six days to find someone.

This 1 BR is in great shape and has both a new microwave and stove. I've also repainted all the walls, changed ALL the bulbs, and scrubbed the tile. I'm also going to leave an end table in here for however takes the apartment, as well as my dustbuster, dustpan, broom, silverware, and glasses. Finally, I will also give you the CaribServe Internet box (which normally requires a deposit of $175 to CaribServe, RARELY GIVEN BACK) for FREE! Rent is $1050 a month.

I beg of all of you again, PLEASE consider taking my place so that I can get my deposit back. It's a great apartment and literally a 15 second walk to campus. Thanks, and I hope to hear from you.

Wow unknown person, 1)Thanks for being so helpful. Really.
2)I never claimed I was leaving dishes. The apartment came with 4 crappy forks and knives straight out of 1970, and four tea cups that could MAYBE hold 4 ounces of water MAX. I'm leaving better forks, knives, and spoons, as well as a few larger, normal sized glasses.
Again though, thanks for the help in highlighting possibly the least important things I said I was leaving in the apartment (or didn't say, in regards to the dishes.)

Why are they not giving you your security deposit back until you find someone?

    Alright, well here's the story:

So last year I re-upped my contract until August thinking I was going to still be in school until then. December was the end of my last semester, but I came back down to live here for another 4 months with my girlfriend. In the beginning of February, there was a mad rush of people to the apt. complex office because apparently there was some sheet to sign if you intended on leaving in April (3 months in advance: their rule for the advance notice). I signed my name, and checked off that I did not intend to renew my lease. Here we are now almost three months later, and I was told yesterday that I didnt give the office an official "written notice" as stated in the contract that I was leaving, so I was technically breaching my contract and would not receive my deposit back because my contract said I was leaving in August. The paper I signed and said I was not renewing my contract was supposed to only be for people who's leases ended in April. Mine did not, but they still seemed to check my name off the list as if this was fair warning Here's where it's really annoying though.

1)I've been pestering the office every week for the past 3 months now, trying to make sure I knew exactly what had to be in order, what had to be painted, how many glasses I had to have etc. to get my full deposit back, so they very well KNEW I've intended on leaving, even without the "official written notice (as if a signature on a piece of paper wasn't enough of a "written notice"?).

2)"Written notice" is a vague statement. Isn't signing something showing your intent to leave enough of a "written notice"? I suppose not.

If everything is done by the books, they won't hassle you. I just hope someone can fix my mistake by taking my place, and I'll make sure you do everything correctly that I didn't do (which is really just writing them a sentence or two three months early telling them you intend on leaving in X month). The compromise we came to is if I can find someone to take my place, I'll receive it back. Thanks for reading, and please consider my place. It's a spacious apartment in fantastic condition.

As for the electricity and water, water is just part of the $1050 rent (meaning no separate bill, it's included) and electricity is usually around $60-$80 a month. Maybe even cheaper for you though because I tend to have my speakers on most of the time (big subwoofer), my xbox, and my TV.

The apartment is fully furnished, including a new microwave, mattress, and futon that I've put in here within the past 2 months. Internet is the standard AUC fee of $144 for three months, but they also usually charge you a ridiculous fee to "install it" in your room, as well as the $175 for the modem you are borrowing from them. If you live here, I'll leave the modem for you (which is already installed), saving you upwards of $300. Truthfully, you might not even have to pay that $144 either, because the internet is under my name, and even when you stop payments, they seem to not shut it off. They've kept mine on now for 4 extra months without a payment, as if my apt. has slipped under the radar. A stroke of luck I suppose

For any incoming first semesters considering this apartment (or anyone for that matter, but this incentive is more directed toward first semesters), I'm also throwing in the entire collection of books you need for first semester (excluding Netter's), as well as a dissection kit, latex gloves, and finally........A CAR for free!

The car is a crappy rusted Kia, but it runs, and that's all you really need on this island. Again everyone, please consider my place. It's in good shape, and I'll be starting you out with A LOT of extras. I have pictures; if you want to see, email me at [email protected]. Thanks all
