    Financial Aid

    Advertisements

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same issues as I have with financial aid this semester: I just started my first clinical rotation on Aug 1, a six week rotation, with my next rotation starts September 26 which gives me a 2 week gap between rotations. I have been told that I will not receive my financial aid check until my second rotation starts because the first rotation technically started in the summer semester. Although I know that someone with an initial start date of Aug 15 and a four week gap between the first two rotations has already received his financial aid check. Finacial aid says this is a federal guideline that they are following. Do you think this is true or is Devry just trying to keep my money. Also, studenloan.gov states that my disbursement has been sent to the school. Any thoughts?

According to AUC and the Federal Guidelines as far as I know, AUC considers you to be a "full-time student" and eligible for Financial Aid if you are completing at least 8 weeks in a given semester. Because your rotation started on August 1st, you only competed 4 weeks of it during the "summer term" therefore you are ineligible for aid. However, you are eligible for aid for the "fall term" if you are completing at least 8 weeks during this term. Therefore, you "should" be able to get your check at the start of the term (mailed around August 5th or so), but due to your 2 week gap, they are making you wait. The most you can do is ask for the check to be sent to you "early". I am not sure how it works with DeVry in charge, but before, they could send the check as much as 5 business days before the start of the rotation. I did this prior to the start of my first rotation in June. However, they are within bounds to make you wait. Sorry.. It sucks.... welcome to clinicals!!
