    timing of step 2

    Advertisements

I've heard that if possible, it's best to have step 2 results ready for when programs start pulling applications from ERAS on Sept. 1. I plan on taking step 2 CS the first week of july, and step 2 CK the last week of July. Once i get the scores, how long does it take for them to get into ERAS, and how do they get there? Would they be there in time?

Applications usually open up September 1, that is the same day that the scores from exams taken 3-4 weeks prior to that date are released. Once the scores are released, that day they go to ERAS, and are in your file. So any CK taken on or before August 11th (or maybe the 10th) will be available, and uploaded to ERAS on Sept 1, and sent to your programs. The importance of applying on Sept 1 (hopefully with CK and CS done) can't be understated.

Agree with all of the above. I took mine the first week of August and had the score in as soon as everything went out Sept 1st. You just check off that you want to release all your transcripts, pay a one time fee, and that's it. It will get sent automatically when you select "USMLE transcript" under each specific program that you are applying to.

Just make sure you're ready, it's better to have Step 2 in a little late (provided your Step 1 score is good) then to crash it.

I took mine a little late because I had an idea of where I was going to match, but it did add stress, so I would say your time frame sounds good.

    Just a Heads up:

Delay in USMLE Step 2 CK Score Reporting
Most score reporting of Step 2 CK results occurs within four weeks of testing. However, because of necessary modifications to the test item pool, there will be a delay in reporting for some examinees testing beginning in mid-August 2010. The target date for reporting Step 2 CK scores for most examinees testing from August 12 through mid-September will be Wednesday, October 6, 2010.

It is possible that scores will be available earlier than this date; please check this website for updates.
