Sport Medicine - Providence Hospital (Novi Office, Dr. M) Post Rotation Review

    Advertisements

Great elective that is very laid back and you still learn a lot!!
The office is located in Novi next to the new Providence Park Hospital. I rotated in the winter and didn't see a lot of sports injuries, but saw a good amount. If you want a good review of musculoskeletal medicine and injuries that is better than family med, but less taxing like ortho then consider sports med. There are 3 providers and a fellow you will work with. All of them are awesome and teach a good bit. Your day will start at 9am in the office and you will either coat-tail or see patients and report to the doc. You get an hour lunch and are out of the office by 4-5pm everyday. You go to lectures wed morning at Providence Hospital in southfield with the FP residents from 7-12 in the morning then the remaining day is study time for you. You will be given a paper/topic to present on your last week of your choice in sports medicine. You get occasional topics to look up on but its barley 3-4 a week and its very informal discussion with attendings. There is no call and you don't go to the hospital for anything. The staff at the office are very nice and courtious.

If you want a rotation where you are relaxed and learn a lot, go here. 5 out of 5 stars on this one. Top Notch!!!

From what it sounds like from the review, this is a really good feeler elective for any candidates interested in PM&R as you will see a lot of MSK pts. in private practice if you end up picking Physical Medicine as your expertise after your PM&R residency...
