okay thanks! 1. What is the daily/weekly schedule (classes, lab etc.) 2. Is the AICASA school near AUA's med school, is it in the same complex? 3. Where do people normally live when in the BSEP program 4. How hard is the curriculum compared to undergraduate courses. 5. How successful are people in getting into MD one?

    1. They usually give the schedule when you register but it has stayed fairly constant and BSEP students do not have any labs so you are usually done by 2 PM everyday. Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays--> Anatomy/Physio & Genetics. Tuesday/Thursday--> Cell Bio & Micro. 2. AICASA is within walking distance to AUA. There is some new construction being done in the lot between AICASA and AUA which should bridge the distance gap between the two schools. It is on the same street, probably a 7-8 minute walk from AUA. 3. BSEP students usually live in the same complexes as the pre-meds/med students such as Mandalay/studio 10. I believe everyone is required to stay in student housing for 1 semester and then students can venture out and find independent housing. It just depends on what you are assigned. 4. The BSEP program is quite rigorous. People that come from undergrad back in the states are not used to it and fall behind. Cell Biology is a subject that most BSEP students struggle with. As long as you study the material the same day and go back to review on the weekends, you should be fine. You should have to have a good study plan and make sure to stay on top of your material because the program goes by very fast. 5. It honestly depends every semester but the BSEP program does have a lot of repeating students usually. But everyone that repeats just says that they didn't study the material every day or stay on top of it. Some classes only had a few repeaters while others have had 80% of the students come back to do BSEP a second time. You just have to make sure you find a good group of people that you can rely on. (since you will be seeing the same people everyday). Hope I answered your questions. Lemme know if you have any others.

Hi! I'm going to be starting this Fall in BSEP as well!
    Anyone else coming from California!?

Also I have another question for caligirl09: do we need to dress up to class everyday in BSEP? I heard that you have to for Med 1. So just wanted to know if it's the same for us.

Dressing up isn't everyday for BSEP. I think they were Tuesdays and Wednesdays. But they usually send out emails out around the beginning of the semester to notify students.

that was BEYOND helpful thanks. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do in the net couple months before I go (planning, preparing, packing etc.) also someone told me to do Bridge to MD rather than BSEP, do you know why?

No problem!! I actually did pre-med at AICASA but I was a point of two short of getting the GPA needed. It's harder than everyone says. I am also thinking of doing Bridge. Maybe you can help me and maybe ask that person why you should do Bridge rather than BSEP? I feel like Bridge is a little more manageable. You work on a subject for a few weeks, take that midterm and move onto the other two subjects and do the same. But the final is integrated. All the questions are a mix of the 3 subjects. Which is another thing that is different from BSEP. From my experience at AICASA, I felt the exams were not a good reflection of what was taught by the profs. It gives me a fresh start and I feel like for someone from undergrad, it is an easier transition into the carib med school way of things. Also doesn't hurt that the profs are American professors lol
Uhmm as far as preparing goes, I feel like the textbooks that are a must are for Micro/Genetics and maybe Cell (it's a difficult read). The prof for A/P has handouts which are basically your holy grail for that class and you just have to memorize those packets. You can probably find those textbooks as PDFs. As far as packing goes, I usually have my mom freeze various indian meals so I can pack them in my suitcase and take them. Groceries are expensive there so if I have room I take snacks and what not. In your housing, they should give you all the utensils and what not, but you have to take bedding so maybe ask what size the beds are for that. There is a "craigslist" for AUA/AICASA, it's called the AUA student faculty market, if you just wanna search for that. You can find pretty much anything there. And since the Med 5's will be leaving around Sept. there will be tons of people selling items. For me it was and still is a hard transition. Island life is completely different. So mental preparation is also important (just assuming this is your first time going to a carib med school). Packing school supplies is also a good idea, but again, even if you miss something there will be a bunch of students selling stuff. I took a george foreman with me along with a coffee machine because some places didn't come equipped with one. Also take something for laundry detergent, I used Tide Pods because they are so easy to not only pack but to use. A lot of students have had their computer crash and die while on the island, myself being one of them. So I would just take a tablet or a whatever computer as a backup in case anything happens to the primary one. I feel like that is pretty much everything. I would pack like I am going away for college all over again. If I think of anything else important I will let you know. Hope I have helped.
