    BSEP May 2014

    Advertisements

Hi, I was just accepted to BSEP for May 2014. I wanted to know how any previous BSEP students received loan approval?? And is there anyone else going in May 2014 from NY?

    Hi there,

I'm a Canadian Student who has been invited for an interview for a seat in AUA's MD program (Aug 2014 start). I know about the BTMD program (Bridge to MD), but I have not heard about the BSEP before reading a few posts on ValueMD.

What exactly is the BSEP, and what is the admissions agreement with AUACOM (college of medicine) admissions office... ie how many courses do you take for how long and what gpa do you have to finish with to be offered a spot at AUACOM? Or does BSEP even work like that? Any info would be appreciated!

    Hey,

BSEP is the Basic Science Enhancement Program. However, it is not a program you can apply for directly. After receiving an interview with AUA, students that did not do so well in science courses as an undergrad are offered BSEP. For the May term, the program begins on May 1st and ends in the week of August 16th. The semester consists of four courses: Microbiology, Cellular Molecular Biology, Genetics and Anatomy/Physiology. The requirement is to pass all courses with a minimum gpa of 2.7 and then you are eligible to move on to Med1. I believe BSEP is considered to be the last semester of the Pre-Med program in AICASA. If you go to the AICASA website you should be able to find more information.

If you are familiar with Ross, they have a program called MERP. BSEP is exactly like MERP. I was told that the guy that directed/coordinated MERP at Ross, now does it for AUA.

I hope that this was helpful! Congratulations on receiving an interview and I wish you the best of luck! Hopefully you won't be offered BSEP and will get a direct admission instead.

Hey, thanks for the info! One more question: what is the cost of the BSEP program?

The cost is the same as a semester at AICASA. The tuition is $9,675 + housing (ranges from $3800 to $1400) + personal expenses (approximately $1800).

I believe the BTMD program is only cheaper because you can stay at home. You won't have to pay the extra costs of housing and personal expenses. However, AUA usually recommends BSEP first because it gives a more similar experience to Med1.
