Pre-Med or Med students experience at AUA?

    Advertisements

Hello to all current pre-med and med students. I'm really leaning towards applying to AUA's pre-medical program but I want to hear about people's experience at the school. If you had to do it all over again would you still want to attend AUA? Any pros or cons to this school? Has anyone actually graduated from AUA and practicing in the U.S.? Any replies with any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Cheers,
    1. The entire premed program is 16 months (4 semesters). But not everyone who enters premed has to take all the semesters. I was admitted into premed 4 (along with probably about 30-40 others).
    2. It varies..I'm 29, but there are folks right out of HS..and others with their degrees.
    3. Yes..some do that. I know i wouldn't have been able to do that straight out of high school. (Not only move away at age 17, but to a foreign country.)
    4. On the day of your orientation, you will take a "placement" test. It's basically math, english, chem, and an essay. It won't HURT you. (If you're already in premed 3, you wont drop down), but if you score well on say the math portion, you could opt out of your math classes and move up.

Funny, I actually loved Antigua, wouldn't mind teaching there at one point after residency training........either AUA or UHSA....beautiful beaches !!

My 2nd cousin is an aspiring Physician, but, did not complete all pre-reqs, he has a BA in Psychology. with a 3.2 GPA....he was thinking about completing his MSc in Biomedical sciences, and then apply to med school in the US or consider a Caribbean route......
    Cheers,

There are folks who have bachelor degrees who start in pre med 1 here. It's all about your gpa, what grades you made in premed classes, etc. But i must say it's nice to have a 4 yr degree to fall back on if things dont work out. Depends on how far along you are in the states..
