    Non-Affiliate Rotations

    Advertisements

Hello! Does anyone have any information about how to obtain a clinical rotation (elective or core) from a hospital no longer affiliated with AUA? I know the school used to have a few hospitals in the Miami area, but no longer have contracts with them, but some students continue to rotate in the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

if you want to rotate at a non-affiliate hospital all you have to do is call them and ask to be transferred to the dept. of undergraduate or graduate education..tell them you are a 3rd yr med student and you are interested in rotating at the hospital if they accept IMG students then you will need to get the non-affiliate form (on blackboard) filled out by the coordinator at the hospital. I have rotated at 1 non-affiliate and the coordinator was unbelievably nice she had our form on file and filled it in for me and did all the work emailing it to my coordinator at AUA and speaking to her and dealing with all the forms, so you may get lucky. If not you just either fax it or email it to the coordinator have them fill it in, send it back to you and then you email it to your coordinator. It takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks to get approved, it may not be approved though. There is a list on blackboard of pre-approved non-affiliates that Dr. B has said yes to in the past so will most likely say yes again. If it is not approved you cannot rotate at the hospital and have it count towards your clinical weeks, but you can still do observership for your own experience and to make connections if the hospital will allow you, but it will not count as weeks towards your AUA clerkship.
