AUA meets California (Officially California State approved) document checklist

    Advertisements

"It gives me great pleasure to announce that on July 29, 2011 the Medical Board of California voted to recognize American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine's Medical Education Program.

The Medical Board of California recognition allows:
    1. AUA College of Medicine graduates to apply for medical licensure in California
    2. AUA College of Medicine graduates to enter residency training in California
    3. AUA College of Medicine to provide clinical training in California Teaching Hospitals
AUA College of Medicine is proud of its medical education program and is appreciative of the opportunities that the Medical Board of California recognition will open to its students and graduates.

I want to thank our distinguished faculty and administrators for their commitment to education and our students and graduates for all they have achieved. All of you have contributed to AUA College of Medicine being the youngest and one of the few international medical schools to have been recognized based on the recommendations of the Medical Board of California Site Visit Team.

This is Amazing! AUA is finally approved for California.
Here is a checklist of some of the documents you need to have and fill out. This will help you along get prepared for your route to Ca.
You must fill out and L-6 form for all rotations completed (family green umbrella accepted). It must have the hospital stamp!

You should go here to read the law-->CAL. BPC. CODE § 2089.5 : California Code - Section 2089.5

this to double check your rotation to make sure it is ACGME ACGME Accredited Program and Institutional Listing - Public Access unfortunately as of now there is no way to easily search for all sponsorships and you must go in and individually search each program if you are unsure who is the sponsoring party

Either way there should be a thread started, prolly a sticky, about this for all the questions soon to come.

    Good Luck!

I already started collecting L6 forms even before this update occurred just so I would not have to go back and do that. You can google "California L6" - it is the first link that shows up. You can go to page 22 of this PDF and print the form and give it to the hospital's department of medical education where you are or have completed rotations.

Just because you're Cali approved doesn't mean you automatically get Cali rotations.

Well going by what Dr B specifically told us in a meeting the week before they did the campus and wychoff/ imc site visits... that "We have a few prospects in mind and as soon as we get approval then we can start negotiations, not the other way around" he actually named a couple major cities but not specific towns or hospitals ...

if there are any more meetings at different hospitalas with Dr B coming in and talking.. make sure you go ask some questions and then post them up here. SO People doing rotations anywhere else besides IMC and Wychoff can have an idea...

CA is very difficult and an unforgiving medical board. I have some US grad friends from other states who told me that CA was a horror for licensing if you did not graduate from a medical school in that state. So I would wait until the school shows you a final approval letter. Good Luck to all, Yossarrian
