    AUA administration Sucks!!!

    Advertisements

I finished my rotations in November, and I had all my grades in by Dec, and I am trying to get ECFMG certified ever since!!! Yet none of the registrars respond to my email, if they do it's just to forward it to somebody else. I tried calling, but everytime I speak to someone they give me a different excuse....last week it was "oh you are actually next in line for the degree audit" and today it was "you are missing some documents"..... but they dont want to tell me what or what I can do!!! I am starting residency and wanted to take step 3 before (which I cant if I am not ecfmg certified) and I have heard of cases where people where put on probation their first week of residency because they couldn't even sign a prescription or write an order because they were not certified!!! Because once the school gives you your diploma the ECFMG takes a couple of months to get you certified.....however the school won't issue me my diploma!!!!!!!!!!!

I am seriously at a loss, and have no idea what to do or who to turn to. I feel like the school doesn't give a pooh pooh about it's students and helping them succeed.

Sorry about the rant... but i was wondering if anyone had any advice??? This is very important!
    Thanks

I understand that you apparently have a lot of frustration, but I hope not everyone with the AUA administration su___. I apologize in advance if you are not getting the response or help you need. If you are this far along with your education, the last thing we want is for you to have any problems at this juncture.
PLEASE email me directly, and I will be happy to get to the bottom of whatever the issues might be.

I think the response issue is a matter of fulfilling due diligence on part of the administrative staff. I have recently passed my USMLE Step One and I have just begun the clinical application process. I sent my score report last week in two separate emails. In addition, I have also left a couple voice mails inquiring about the status of my report submission/processing; however, I have gotten neither an email response back nor a phone call. I think the students are doing their due diligence when it comes to having documentation ready, however, the administrative staff hasn't demonstrated reciprocity.

With the new clinical staff I generally have to email 3-5 times and leave several messages before I get a response. I really hope this improves because it wasn't like this before and it can be quite frustrating. I hope you get your diploma soon! Good Luck!

Just a question on a related issue. Can one "graduate" at any time? I.E. when one has finished their requirements or do you have to wait until June. The reason I ask is that due to waiting for 5th semester to end, getting permission to take step 1 and waiting for rotations, the earliest I can finish would be August 2012! I would prefer to stretch out my clinical rotations and finish in January 2013 then match, without a significant gap after graduation! What do you all think?

Your graduation date is the last day of your clinical rotations. this will be the date on your diploma when you receive it. there is only one graduation ceremony in june. you will have to complete the exam requirements as well (i.e. step 1, ck and cs) before receiving your diploma. you may well have some gaps in your rotations, and you might take some time off to study for ck/cs, so it is possible to stretch out your rotations. talk with your clinical coordinators. if you finish in august 2012 you will definitely have to find something productive to do with that year off.

    Also waiting

I finished my rotations in November and I'm waiting too. Also hoping to take Step 3 before residency. From what I understand we have to be ECFMG certified to register. Registration also takes some time just like for the other steps. I'm worried I'm not going to be able to take it when I want to. It is so clear from our transcripts whether we passed all of our classes. How long does a degree audit take! We all take the same classes, it is pretty simple to tell if someone is eligible to graduate or not.

Ok so maybe saying that the administration sucks was a little harsh, but I was very frustrated! As of today the school is working on my degree audit and I should be getting my diploma soon. I apologize to AUA for this thread and I am happy to day that my diploma problem is being fixed.

THANK YOU EVERYBODY for hearing me out and the advice!!!
