Starting IM at RUMC in Staten island at the end of march. Anyone wanna share their experience there? This will be my first rotation so I don't really know what to expect. Any advice would be great. Also, does anyone know of any good housing in the area?

I did 5th there. Overall it's a great hospital with kind and helpful staff. I'm starting Surgery there March 28th and desperately looking for somewhere to live. If anyone is interested in a two bedroom, let me know. They're always cheaper than one bedrooms.

Overall, staff is friendly, cafeteria has good food compared to other hospitals. Every rotation depends on which attendings / residents you work with because they all expect different things out of the students. My friend who did IM there said he watched after 1-2 patients at a time.

Wow I live right down the block, my interview for AUA is next week, Hopefully i will get in. But that hospital is very close-nit and friendly.
My uncle is an OR tech at RUMC, and works one on one with doctors, he always has positive things to say about them. Goodluck!

    Surgery

Can someone share their experience in Surgery at RUMC. I'm moving to Manhattan the end of the month and am actually considering staying there through the surgery rotation and commuting to SI everyday bc I just love the city that much!

Is it worth it? Or are the hours too crazy for that. And by commuting, I mean, the train, to the ferry to the bus everyday... Thoughts?

the evening commute may not be that bad except on call nights, but its the morning commute that will kill you. most mornings you have to be there by 530am or sometimes even 5 to preround. i lived only about 15mins away on staten island and i still hated getting there that early. if you have to commute from manhattan and you have to be there that early you may need to leave your house before 4am! it might be easier on your mind and body to find somewhere to crash during the week on staten island at a friend's house.

p.s. i did my surgery rotation there in 2009 so its possible that the hours may have changed, so try to find input from someone who did it more recently. just wanted to give you my perspective. good luck
