Hey what's up?
I'm starting peds at wycoff soon, I was wondering if you could tell me a bit about the rotation. How is the schedule/hours/any calls, etc. I'm also studying for step 2, so it would just help to get an idea of what it's like. Also any help on places to live would be much appreciated.
Thanks
I am finishing up peds at wykoff this week. You do something different each week. Here is how mine went. Lecture was everyday at 3pm and two or three days/week we also had 2pm lecture
Week 1- 7:30am-4pm - Pediatric floor
You basically hang out on the peds floor and do whatever the residents ask you to do. You will round each morning with the attending and should know at least one patient on the floor in case you are called on to present. There are two calls per person this week. It will either be a night call 4pm-7:30 am or a weekend call. That is to be made by the group.
Week 2- 10a-10p OR 7p-7a Monday-Sunday Pedatric ER
You will work ONLY three shifts this week that are assigned to you at the beginning of pediatrics. If you work 10a-10p you will be let go at 7p. If you work 7p-7a you will be let go between midnight and 4am depending on how busy it is.
Week 3- 7:30-5p Monday-Friday Nursery
You can not leave the nursery expect for lectures. You will be responsible for new deliveries which include the entire new born physical. You will round every day at various time. Rounds are intense. Know your stuff, don't look like an idiot. If you're bored, feed the babies (if not with mom or soley breastfed). On Thursday you will report to HIGH RISK CLINIC. Everyone dreads this and says it's horrible and they get yelled at and belittled. I had none of those problems and enjoyed it.
Week 4 Various-For me it was 9-4 Tuesday-Friday (off Monday)-Private Office
You will report to a private clinic within a few block radius from the hospital. I had a great time with my doctor. It was mostly observational this week but he taught a lot and we got to see how a pediatrician's office is ran.
Week 5 REPEAT WEEK
For me it was a repeat of Pediatric ER
Week 6- 9am-noon OR noon-4pm Monday-Friday- Inpatient Pediatric Clinic
This is fun. Just like an outside office only it's inside the hospital. The docs are great and teach a lot.
It is Green but not through Wyckoff. I can't remember the sponsoring institution but it DEF it Green.
hours suck, but theres ways to go around it![]()
nicu/nursery was 1 of my favorite weeks in medical school. spent the entire time feeding/swaddling cute little babies. watching other students get destroyed during rounds was also hilarious.

Peds ER is my favorite and was so happy I happened to get it twice!
