    Clinical questions

Dont really know anything about rotations. How does it work. Do you have a 8-12 hr schedule M-F or Su-Sa? How long are the electives? Can you do the electives before finishing cores? What books are recommended?

Schedules completely depend on which rotation you are doing, how the hospital has the program set up, and what your attending wants from you.

Electives tend to be 4 weeks but there are some you can do for 2-3 weeks depending on the hospital/specialty.

Given how backed up the clinical situation you will most likely be doing some of your electives before completing your cores. (which is why I am doing my peds rotation at the end of my 4th yr and have minimal electives left).

A list of recommended reading is usually given out before each rotation by the local coordinators before your rotations. (this isn't gauranteed but if you do some reading on this forum before a rotation you can get an idea ahead of time)

Hey DrSpeaks, is the clinical situations really so awful? I'm thinking of transferring into 3rd term this January (long story), and I'd really appreciate it if you could give me an idea of what's going on with clinicals.
