    Tried to schedule my own electives

    At a hospital near where I live that is not affliated with aua but I was told that they only take u.s. accredited schools

    pardon my ignorance but I thought we were lol

    some hospitals don't take anyone besides us medical students, nothing we can do about that. also has nothing to do with accredidation

    ok yea i understand i guess i was initially confused about the term "non-u.s. accreditation" seeing how i thought we were.. but he probably just meant they only want students that went to med school in the states.

    not sure if theres a point to clarify that to him becase you're probably right... there just might be an underlying bias for US med students.

    certain states like Pennsylvania and NJ and probably some others ONLY take US students to do 'away electives' meaning electives not affiliated with AUA. so, this might be one of the state laws in the state u are applying OR could just be a hospital rule. i know how u feel i tried to get an elective in NJ and it was a no go

    we can schedule 3 electives at non affliated hospitals. just a pain to do it, that's all. but good experience.

    Prereqs for electives

    Do you guys know if ALL of the electives have pre-reqs?

    Like to do pathology, anesthesia, ER elective, would you need surgery/IM?

    i did anesth without surgery or IM...but this was back before there may have been a requirement. i know neuro requires at least FM
    M.D.
