you have 48 weeks of cores, and i believe 27 weeks of electives (double check all numbers, its late as I post this). I think our school requires that we finish around end of april prior to when we wish to start residency.

You might be able to if you can get back to back rotations which might be hard at AUA, but not impossible. You'd be done end of April which is the deadline to be complete to match 2011 at AUA. Hope this helps. Good luck.

why do u have to finish all your rotations by end of April. At some other schools, the students still match that year even when they finish their rotations in June. I though the graduation at AUA was in June, so why can't we be done at end of May. Also, it's going to be hard at AUA to get back to back rotations so if you start in October, that means you have to do back to back rotations without any breaks in between to be done at the end of April.

In most places including NY, you need to be ecfmg certified to start residency, and that process takes up to four months after AUA gives you a copy of your diploma, and that can take up to a month after you finish rotations. I know people whose residency programs put them in forced vacation until they were ECFMG certified.

In other places, you need a temporary license to start residency and that requires ECFMG certification plus a few weeks. So, even if you graduate on April 1st, you are cutting it close.

I finished in October, got my AUA diploma in November, and got ECFMG certified on March 27th. I got my temporary license in June - just making the deadline.

plus a photocopy of your diploma from the school. the school wont issue your actual diploma till weeks after the ceremony but they give you a photocopy of it when you finish clinicals. make sure you nag them abou it because ecfmg certifiation takes twice as long as it used to

Combining this and what Sree said that means we won't be able to make 2011 match if we start end of sept / october.

I thought we would be able to match as long as we completed core rotations by the September prior to your match year(ie. finish cores by Sept 2010 to make 2011 match) and have taken Step II CS and CK by then to start applying for residency.
