Um, where do I go from here

After waiting months for my "schedule" of core rotations, I was assigned to my first roation beginning on Oct. 5th. This is the extent of my schedule and I have no idea where or when I am going after that. Does anyone have this same issue or is it just me?

unless you're traveling from state to state for cores, you're not going to get a whole schedule up front. if you plan on staying in one area like Baltimore, you have to play it by ear. i'm in internal right now and it is ending in a month, i start OB after that and i have surgery scheduled in may in NY. between that i'm trying to get psych and family scheduled but haven't had much success yet and Peds will probably come sometime after Surgery in September.

this is the way the clinical situation is right now so you can't expect to get all your cores scheduled rigtht away. you have to be persist and you may have to move around. i planned on only doing Peds in NY before i got my rotations and doing everything else in Baltimore. it is shaping into probably doing Peds, Surgery and Psych in NY now. i've already done two electives, another one scheduled and a possible away elective sometime in the fall of 2010. that is where i am at right now trying to figure out my cores so i can schedule in step 2.

it's a tight schedule but just keep on your coordinators, in a good way, and be flexible.
