    clinical coordinators

    Advertisements

For the people that have passed step 1 and are waiting to get placed how was your experience with the coordinators and what is the best way to have a good experienece?

I faxed ms L almost 2 weeks ago with my step 1 score and the required documents but have yet to recieve an email back. I have also written her 2 emails asking for confirmation of the documents, but no response. I've called several times and it always goes directly to her voicemail. When i transfer the call to the receptionist, I asked her when ms L is going to be in the office and she goes, " shes in the office, write her an email". Why doesnt she just pick up the F'n phone!!

I dont think I am ever going to get placed.

Email her and ask, she responds to emails very quickly but barely ever responds to phone calls. (just a personal thing I guess) Just to give you a heads-up, I sent in my scores in Oct and did not get my first clinical assignment until March, the very end of March. This has been a big concern for clinical students as there simply aren't enough spots for all the students we have. (not to mention the growing number of transfers we receive each semester)

In the meantime go ahead and get a physical done, a 10 panel drug screen, PPD test, HIV test, and titers on your vacs. This will be the minimum you ar required to show before they will give you an assignment for clinicals.

I understand that I should keep emailing them back, but i feel like its just going to make her angry. Its just pathetic that there are only 2 coordinators for all these students. i'm just really getting annoyed.

    Contacting your advisor

Call the receptionist main line and get their extension. Then call 20x per day. They are there, but just on the other line or in meetings. When you reach them be very polite. Ask consistently for what you want, know what is available (look on this forum for an idea or where students are rotating and where you might like to go). Make suggestions, but be flexible to opportunities they offer you. Ask to be considered for a spot "if anything opens up". This happens all the time. I have given up very desireable spots for several reasons and the person who is in their mind most recently was probably called and offered it, shortly after.

i agree with the clinical coordinators. this is starting to get ridiculous. I heard we have spots open from that meeting with N.S.(head of the school), but apparently i now heard that those spots have been filled up by transfer students. Shouldn't the school give precedent to its own students before transfer students. A bunch of us finished and recieved our step 1 scores 2 weeks ago and havn't gotten a reply at all with our consistent emails. I know they're busy... but I mean cmon either tell us that they have no spots or tell us something. It is starting to be an embarassment to how this is going compared to other schools. We're opening up a new vet school and all that to match SGU and all the other caribbean schools, while our med school curriculum is still a disaster.

So far my experience with the clinical dept hasn't been great. Had problems with the coordinator not sending me forms until after i gave her my score which delayed me another week. The other coordinator emailed out the forms when students asked. Also I live in NYC and have visited the Wall St office twice but receptionist keeps telling me shes not in.

It's fustrating after finding out how so much of the clinical spots are taken by transfer students. Why even bother going through basic sciences here.

I haven't heard that about the transfer students...sounds kinda weird. But if it is true, maybe they give priority to these students to attract them to the school over other schools. Those of us who have completed AUA's basic sciences are already "locked in" to the school. Just a thought
