Only Family is green. All other rotations are considered "blue" which automatically removes about 12 states from your pool of states to apply to for residency. I've called and spoken to a rep at JP concerning "family umbrella" and he basically stuttered and passed the buck when I brought this little tidbit of information up. Look at the sticky "What is a greenbook rotation?" and Jackson Park is addressed specifically...and what the "family umbrella" really is...or isn't.

Hopefully, NS will clear things up tonight during his clinical meeting. I submitted the following questions dealing with greenbook rotations. Will be interesting to see if they are addressed and if I get a cut and dried answer.

    1) Are students being forced into non-greenbook clerkships at AUA clincial sites and being Ďfinedí if they donít accept these non-greenbook clerkships? Is it AUA policy to allow students to wait for greenbook clerkships on a first-come / first-served basis?

    2) Are AUA students allowed to complete up to 12 weeks of clerkships while waiting on USMLE-1 test results (as per the 2009 AUA Student Handbook, page 11)? If this is the case, is the Clinical Department aware of this paragraph in the student handbook? If this is not the case, can the 2009 AUA Student Handbook be updated to reflect this change?

    3) Given AUA is already restricted from practicing in states that follow Californiaís approval list, why is the school using non-greenbook clerkships which will further restrict us from practicing in additional states? States like Texas require all green core and elective clerkships....other states require green cores. What specific efforts are being made, if any, to increase the number of green sites in the US and / or the UK / Ireland (AUC has 3rd year clerkships in both locations)?

    TX Stipulation ( http://www.tmb.state.tx.us/professionals/physicians/applicants/education.php )
An applicant who is unable to comply with this requirement, for example, an international medical graduate who performed clinical clerkships in the United States, must demonstrate that the applicant either:
    (1) received such medical education in a hospital or teaching institution sponsoring or participating in a program of graduate medical education accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the American Osteopathic Association, or the board in the same subject (emphasis added) as the medical or osteopathic medical education if the hospital or teaching institution has an agreement with the applicant's school; or,
    (2) is specialty board certified by a board approved by the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists or the American Board of Medical Specialties

    4) Is there any reason why the AUA Clinical Department cannot post online (or the S-Drive) and keep updated a list of available clerkships (not hospital affiliations) and the 10-digit ACGME Program Number associated with these clerkships....or at a minimum, provide the student with the ACGME Program Number when the clerkship is assigned? This would facilitate communication and remove any doubt as to whether a clerkship is green or not.

The meeting was supposed to be recorded tonight and posted online tomorrow. AUA is supposed to email us and provide us with the website / access information. I think alot of people are eager to see what he has to say.
