    Transfer student to clinical rotation

    Advertisements

    Hi,
I am planning to transfer to AUA for the clinical rotation. I talked to them on the phone and they told me that they several hospitals in US and i ll be able to do all my rotations at one of the affiliated hospitals without moving around. I was wondering if someone could tell me how much of this is true and also which hospitals are better and how is the program over all? Thank you for any input, the sooner, the better..
One more thing to add to this, i read that alot of people have to wait for their rotations? Cant you just go to one city and do all your rotations at the hospitals there? What is the waiting time? bc when i contacted them, they never mentioned anything about the waiting time, they said, i ll be contacted by the advisor and she/he will put me on my rotations and they also added that the hospital in Michigan is the most popular and they also have all their rotations there?

maybe if you're OK with Baltimore or Atlanta

From what i;ve heard, it might be possible to do most of your rotations in one of those places ---

(All of your rotations could theoretically be done in NY -- but you would have to be ready for downtime/bottlenecks....)

(Haven;t started my rotations yet, so can't tell you much about the actual sites, etc.)

LOL! <wipes tears from eyes> If they told you you could rotate completely at one hospital and that is was going to be a walk in the park then they are feeding you a line. My first advice would be to go to Sree's sticky called "What is a greenbook rotation?" and you will see the difficulty, if not impossibility, of rotating completely at one hospital.

I am not a transfer and I can tell you that clinical assignments are backed up due to the school taking too many students and not having enough clinical spots. I passed my step in Oct and did not receive my first clinical assignment until the end of March. And remember, I have been a student at AUA since semester 1. Now I may be waiting again for my next assignment due to so much bottle necking going on. I am not picky, I've told the clinical coordinator I am willing to go anywhere as long as it is greenbook.

The wait list for NY is insane, as well as the rotations in Michigan and Conneticut. Now if you are willing to accept "bluebook" rotations and cut yourself off from about 12 states available for residency for AUA grads, then by all means knock yourself out. Myself? I am not paying 12K a semester for less options when it comes to residency.

How long is wait between greenbook rotations?

I am also a transfer student to the clinicals and wanted to know about on average, how much time is spent extra waiting to get rotations. I have also been accepted at Hope medical institute and wanted to get an idea of the time scale for completing all rotations at AUA.

if I insist on green, I was told that I might not be starting first rotation til jan 2010 (passed step last month & I did my basic sciences at aua so I would hope that I would be placed sooner than anyone transfering in just for clinicals)

Anyone got any green coming up sooner?
