    LORs... (Letters of Recommendation)

    Advertisements

ok so.. supposedly the lady who runs the "match bootcamp" (whatever that is).. wants a bunch of stuff by early May.. including:
    personal statement
    CV
    and 3 letters of recommendations..

i dare to ask.. does that make sense?

when you sign up for ERAS you get an ID number and that number goes on the cover page/request for an LOR which is available on PDF format from the ERAS website..
if you're not registered yet, u dont have a number, so do u have to wait till you get the number to ask for the official letters? do u just ask for them anyway and include your # on the outside of the envelope? or do you have to ask for 2 letters at 2 different times..? one for AUA to write u the Deans letter and one for ERAS when its time to apply.. i would imagine that this would get quite annoying to any attending physician.. bad enough u want them to spend time and write u a letter thats personal and tailor made for you.. now ur asking them to print it out and mail it again?

or am i just complicating things in my head and theres a logical explanation to all of this..?

i could be wrong.. doesnt happen often.. but its possible..

    anyone care to share..?

    -do it to it

i dare to ask.. does that make sense? a copy of your LOR is what she means, whoever is writing your LOR should send a copy without your AAMC ID on it just for your AUA file.

Yeah - same letter but have your writer send a copy to AUA before they send it to ERAS.

one for AUA to write u the Deans letter and one for ERAS when its time to apply.. i would imagine that this would get quite annoying to any attending physician.. bad enough u want them to spend time and write u a letter thats personal and tailor made for you.. now ur asking them to print it out and mail it again?

I know that it seems like they are doing a lot for you, and I felt the same way, but they're used to it.

Yes but what does not make sense is, when you request a lor now, it will be without your aamc number, for the May 4th deadline.

Then, after you get your token in June, you have to go back to each doctor and have them redo the letter with your aamc number on it. Its hard enough to track down doctors to write one, then finally get it after weeks of reminding them. But we have to do it all over again when we get our aamc number. Go back to the doctor again, tell him yeah I need the same lor but this time include my aamc number, then wait weeks for it to be done.

Instead it would have been easier we could have it the lors submitted in June, that way we don't have to do a double take with the doctors.

thats precisely my point! what a pain in the ***..

oh and how about the announcement saying EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY u cant get a deans letter unless u have ur step scores in by june or something? and then the day later it being retracted and changed... why must everything be so shady? it feels like they throw pooh pooh out there to see if they can get away with it and if enough people complain then they take it back..

can we sign up for ERAS now for the 2010 match? what do u need to get that token/number? do ur step scores have to be in?

Just so you are aware, if you ever registered for the MCAT, the number assigned to you by the AAMC is the same number used for ERAS. So, if you have it, you can give it to your letter writers now.

Go to ERAS, then My ERAS login. You'll see that your login # is your AAMC #. It won't let you register until you get your token from the ECFMG. That happens July 1, I think, so have your letter writers hold them until you register.
