    Surgery at RUMC

    Advertisements

Hey guys - so I started researching Greenbook status last year during 5th semester, and I had this list that I was always updating and adding/removing hospitals/rotations from as needed. Anyway, I guess I sort of slacked off when it came to keeping that up these past few months - because I could have SWORN Surgery was Greenbook at RUMC. However, I am trying to search for that now, and it's nowhere to be found! Only Greenbook rotations at RUMC I can find are IM, OB/GYN, PEDS, and PSYCH. I feel SO stupid - my rotation is starting on the 13th, so it's too late to back out now, and who knows what the wait will be to start something else . Is RUMC Surgery definitely NOT a Greenbook rotation??? Thanks!

Hey, I'm starting surgery on the 13th too. Only thing I keep hearing about it is that it's a great program and no one's mentioned it to not be greenbook.

I heard it's a great program too - let's hope the Greenbook thing is true also. I'm sure it is - I think I'm just worrying for no reason!

its green my fellow april 13th surgery rotators...

if u go to acgme.org.. go to search accredited programs..select surgery on the dropdown list.. then select new york.. you'll see a list that includes the following entry..

New York Medical College at St Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center of New York Program [4403521234]

if u click on the side that says view details.. u see that surgery residents spend 2-3 months per PGY year at Richmond University Medical Center.. so if they rotate there.. and their residency is green.. then the rotation is green for us..

    any objections..? dare to disagree..

As of July '10 there will be no more residency program for surgery through St. Vincents. We've been informed by RUMC that they are setting up new affiliations through other teaching programs. So basically the students should be fine but I feel bad for the surgical residents who will be "orphans" from now on.

I spoke with the director himself. No matter what happens, surgery is still on for students. not sure if residents are going to be there or not, but they are trying to work it out w/ SUNY downstate. Apparently Mt. Sinai was an option too but backed out. hopefully SUNY D will work out, if not we'll see what happens. supposed to get green "credit" til october (word on the street)
