    OSHA / Bloodborne Pathogens

    Advertisements

    Ok guys, its official:

Starting December 18th, 2008 you may go to VMD Health Care Training (VMD Health Care Training | Home) to complete your Bloodborne Pathogens / OSHA training online. I will be in the States over winter break, so if you take the course in December I will be able to mail you your certification card to an address in the States really fast, or if you are still on the island I can hand-carry the card to you in January, otherwise after that we will have to rely on the Antiguan Mail Service to do the job which might take a little longer...

HIPAA, BLS, and ACLS are to come next, but as of now I do not have a date for when they will be available. Lots of legalities to be worked out first...

I truly hope this will be a worthwhile service to all of you working so hard in your transition into clinical medicine, and will alleviate (at least) one worry in your preparations. Good luck!

P.S. Any questions, please PM me since I don't come on here too often any more...

This program is on the list of programs that aua accepts for hippa, bcls, and bloodborn? You mentioned an aua discount? Ifso what is it, and how do we sign up?

    Hello,
I am not aware of any official approval list, but the BLS is taught in compliance with the American Heart Association, same way as the AUA classes, and states so clearly on the certification card.
The bloodborne pathogens course is taught in full compliance with the Department of Labor and is approved by the Joint Commission.
HIPAA is still a work in progress, so please check back at a later date.
I have recently changed it so that the discount applies to all new registrants for a promotional period, so please visit the website and proceed with the registration directions. The price that will appear at checkout is the adjusted price with discount. Hope this addresses most of your concerns. Thank you very much, and please feel free to contact me with any further questions.

    Hippa

This is the HIPPA site that I used after I passed the step in August. I assume the school still accepts it and it is FREE.

Hrclasroom.com HIPPA Fo' Free!!!!!!!!! I would give them a e-mail that you dont use too much just in case they sell your email, although they have not spammed me yet, but when you get something for free I start to worry.

Not really sure if you all need an OSHA course b/c of the previous post, but if you do I have an online one for about $20.

AUA is requiring all 4th semester students heading into 5th semester to obtain Bloodborne Pathogen certification. This course is also known as OSHA-Healthcare, OSHA for Health Care providers, etc. It is certainly not the full 8- or 16-hour OSHA class, just one pertinent to positions in health care. The online course offered through VMD (see above) is done completely online and takes less than an hour to complete. It also grants you an official certification card from the American Safety and Health Institute valid for one year. Don't know how many other "online training" sites can give you that! Also, if you complete the course while you are still on the island you can receive the card directly from me as soon as the same day. Please remember, however, this certification is valid for 1 year, so you are better off completing this requirement towards the end of 4th semester just to be on the safe side.
In terms of security, as an AUA student myself, I am not interested in obtaining or selling your private information, nonetheless transaction are completed securely via PayPal to prevent that from ever happening.

I just started 5th in Atlanta. I've already registered and started in the clinics. To date, nobody has asked me for my certifications for blood borne pathogens, HIV test / education, HIPAA, social security card, ACLS, BLS, state criminal background report, or state sexual offender report....all of which the school stated were required for registration. As a matter of fact, AUA didn't ask for a single document at registration. The Atlanta site director (non-AUA entity) had their own specific checklist of items that we were required to submit prior to arrival. This differed from the school's list, but some of the requirements were the same. I don't know why the school compiled a checklist with all these requirements if we didn't have to have them. They may have been required at registration at other sites, but not in Atlanta.

Another site for the BBP, HIPAA, HIV education is www.ceufast.com. You can get all three for $30ish total. The site was given to us by the school.

i checked out that ceufast.com site. it says it caters for nurses. do we know if the school/hospitals care where we get this certification from? i asked the site owners if medical students can use this for certification but they had no idea since all they deal with is nurses. does it matter?

It doesn't matter where you do them, they are the same courses. Besides, if jgilbert63 says the site was provided to students by AUA then surely it must be sufficient.

It does not matter where you do them, they will remain the same courses as Voka says.Besides the site which has been provided to the students by AUA is sufficient enough.
