    AUA Graduation Requirements

    Advertisements

    I lost my AUA clinical handbook the day that they gave it to me, 2 years ago, during my fifth semester in Miami.

    If anyone has a copy, can you post the section regarding graduation on this thread. Quote directly if you can.

    Thanks in Advance

    Let me check with D.R. in Student Services to see what she would allow me to post. Or maybe contact her for a new copy? Maybe I can scan and email it to you.

    Not sure if you want this but this is from the Student handbook 2008 pdf

    DEGREE CONFERRAL AND GRADUATION
    • To satisfy the requirements for graduation and to secure a medical diploma, a student must:
    • Complete and pass all core and elective rotations;
    • Pass USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK and CS:
      • Students must request transcript of USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK and CS to be submitted to the New York Office as part of the degree audit (Addendum of Policy change_2.01.08)
    • Fulfill all financial and bursar responsibilities assuring a “zero” balance;
    • Maintain good standing.

    They only confer the degree at the time of graduation, which in every June to student who have met all the requirements at that time. So finishing earlier seems to be of no benefits since it is not reflected.

    It weird because during this wait period you are not a medical student because you are not in school full time but you are not a MD because you have no diploma.

    Step 2 has to be completed??

    ...I planned on doing research for a bit and taking my boards after graduation so I could make money, pay for them, and match a bit later. On the website ( well, at least one part of it) it says that all the basic sciences, clinical rotations and financial obligations must be met...but I didn't realize we already had to take the boards as well???? Has that changed? thanks, e

    A lot of people participate in research after they graduate but that's not an excuse to not take and pass Step 2.

    It doesn't matter where you want to practice - Step 2 tests your knowledge of the clinical sciences. If it were not for this requirement, it would be entirely possible for a student to learn nothing and still graduate. Also, Antigua has no residency programs. The one person I know who plans to practice in Antigua is applying for residency in the US first.

    reply

    Thanks for your reply, but you missed my point I just meant that due to financial constraints one might want to WAIT to take the boards after receiving an MD ( which is only in June right???) - which enables one to get a better research gig- and then study for the boards simulatenously. Of course you have to eventually take them if you want to practice. That hang up is built in to the system.
    Anyhow- just a curious inquiry and a question about the two sites on the website where the graduation requirements are listed differently.
    ( OOps- didn't mean for this to come off snobby lol)
