    clincal start dates..

    Advertisements

Hey congrats to those who newly passed the step!! Now we face the horrors of scheduling clinicals.

ok so since it seems like both coordinators give slightly different information to their particular groups of students, and since there's never really a truly updated list of hospitals or rotations.. and since there IS NEVER a list of rotation name, site, and START DATES that is readily available.. i think we should try our best to compile one ourselves.

can someone, who is far more organized and outgoing than i am, set something up like this? or can everyone just start posting where and when they're doing which rotations? i feel like when u speak to your coordinator if you know more they have to tell you more, and if you know less then you are at their mercy. They can tell you anything and you just have to deal with it.

    Just a thought...

ALSO*** which hospitals have minimum step scores and what are they?
(i just heard of this requirement)

Harbor Hospital (IM): 85 min req
Richmond medical center (surg): started may 12? i believe... whatever that monday was, and ended aug 1 (so count up from there)
    Jackson park (FM): rolling admission
Wycoff (all 6weekers start the same): next start date 9/29, i don't know any after that... count 6 wks up
St. elizabeths (psych): every 1st or 3rd week of the month depending on when last rotation started. so if the last one started on the first, the next one starts on the 3rd week, and etc.

that's all i know, hope it helped.

p.s. schedule your peds obgyn at wycoff now if that's what you're aiming for. I scheduled mine for the oct - dec term in jan when i first got my score.

    good luck

hey---how are you dealing with your clinical coordinator? mine is TL and she is making it very difficult for me to even talk to her. mind you, i'm paying HER for the privilege!!!

specifically i asked to be placed in greenbook rotations anywhere she could find them, but she still couldn't find anything before november. she said she would check family at jackson park for me. fast forward one day and she tells me she has psych at jackson park. i told her about the email she sent me where she said she was going to try for FM, which is green, which is why i agreed to her trying to find me a spot. she said that must have been a typo, says oops, and starts laughing (yea, real funny) i told her i couldn't take the psych spot, that i had only agreed to the FM spot, and she literally started yelling at me. this was only our third conversation, and i was all but pleading with her! W.T.F.??!! this is NUTS! on top of that i asked to go to puerto rico and she told me i needed to be fluent in spanish. when i told her i didn't think that was the case, she said "well i think you would get the most out of it if you speak spanish" W.T.F. put me in puerto rico dammit!! i can't just sit on my a.s.s for two months because you think i need to speak spanish at an english speaking hospital!

i am officially at my wits end

I just talked back. I also corrected her a lot when she would tell me something was greenbook and went in depth with her the difference between bluebook and greenbook. She was actually really nice to me after that and set up my last 3 rotations. I've heard some horror stories with her though, so i'm happy that I don't deal with her often. I also yelled at some guy who cut me off while I was on the phone at her, and she laughed at me. That might have helped too...

I have N, she's nice. I'll be setting up my electives soon sooo... we'll see how much she'll like me when I tell her our school doesn't have any electives in the field I want and how I'm going to be setting all of mine up individually.

FM at jackson is rolling. Tell her you want it now. If you start in 2 months you'll miss the '10 match unless somehow you manage back to back rotations... ehhh... and even that's iffy
    Good luck

Wow NicStx! You're cool! I wish I can be strong as you! You get your stuff done! ::highfive::
So what specialty are you looking at? Please let us know if and how you get those electives.
Seriously, AUA should be happy that a student is taking an initiative to give us different electives in other fields.
    So ROCK ON!!

dood....that's pretty bold. seeing as how she's one of two coordinators i was afraid of any backlash with her in the future.

so FM is rolling, eh? that's NOT what she told me. in fact, in an email she sent me yesterday i was told that

" At this short notice beginning start to your rotations, you do not have another hospital choice."

guess it makes no nevermind to her that it's been over two weeks since she got my score. i'll definitely ask her about jackson park again. i have a feeling it will take her two weeks to get back to me on that somehow....i don't want to miss out on 2010 because of one rotation!!!

-->also, where are you doing OB/GYN?

I mean, they're not bad people, they do have to deal with a lot of screaming students who want everything their way (me included, but i don't scream i don't think).
Just talk to her, say if you don't fill up the 2 months you'll miss the match, your friend (don't mention my name i'll kill you) in FM at JP says its rolling and if you could please please please help you out you'd love her forever and give her a big sloppy kiss. I dunno. Go for it
