Wycoff pediatrics core-- Is there a Final Exam?

    Advertisements

    Hey,
just wondering whether someone could clarify this matter for me.
I'm will be starting pedes core in a month and would like to find out whether there is a final written & oral exams (whether it be multiple choice, inhospital exam or the shelf). Thanks ahead of time for the replies.

so the interaction with patients, rounding, everything for the whole duration of the month doesn't count in figuring the grades? only a written exam?

Yep, there were people on that rotation who didn't show up for much of the time, didn't have signed evaluations, etc. and their grades depended on the final exam as well.

The "oral exam" is an informal question/answer session that lasts 1-2 minutes. She might curve your grade up a little if you answer correctly. But ultimately, she curves your final exam grade by like 15-20 percentage points and that's your final grade.

yeah, but the eval consists of like 5 components, we don't actually get a numerical grade, so how can she use the exam alone to determine a grade?

What Sree said is true. They keep the evals as part of your record but the final grade is determined solely by the final exam. If you score below an A you get a chance to improve on the exit interview if you score badly then its final.

Thats just the way it is. People miss calls and skip days and still get A's. You just have to do best and remember there are consequences for short cut, which may not be apparent at the moment but show up later.

i did the kaplan. I also did use the blueprint answers book. Dr. M will give a review before the final when he does, write all he says then get the answers INDEPTH and you will be ok. The finals is based on things he says during his lectures. I also did the UW peds questions. By the way in my set I got the top grade with this formula.

could people share their notes from Dr. M's lectures & review... much appreciated... I will in turn send my notes from my Step 2 CK studying (they are pretty comprehensive) to whomever is interested.
