    Thinking about transferring

    Advertisements

Hi, I was thinking about transferring from Windsor to Atlantic. I know a lot of students have and I have read a lot of previous posts about their experience. I would like to know how the MD5 program there is and how much time you have to take your step 1 exam. Also if anyone has any information about rotations as far as where you can go and if it was an easy process I would appreciate it. I finished my MD5 through Windsor and have a retake left so I also wanted to know how Atlantic handles retakes when you're done with your basic sciences. Thanks

Hey! Hope all is well. I too am transferring into AUSOM for MD5 from another Caribbean Med School. From what I understand, anyone is welcome to correct me if I am wrong, MD5 is located at a hospital in Chicago, IL. It consists of 16 weeks. Weeks 1-8 are classroom based in which we are given 3 evaluation exams to determine where we currently place in respect to the Step 1. Weeks 9-16 consist of an Advanced ICM class in which e get some sort of Student Doctor/Patient experience at the same hospital in Chicago, IL.

As far as makeup exams are concerned. Any class/classes you may have not passed during MD4 at your previous Medical School shouldn't be a problem. From what I was told, AUSOM gives you the option to retake the finals of each of the classes you may have failed in your previous semester. You have up to 3 tries to complete/pass these exams. You can take these exams anytime during your MD5 semester through their Portal System.

In terms of rotations, there isn't a list of clinical rotations as far as I know, however, I was told there are ~26 states in which rotations may be fulfilled (accredited teaching institutions/hospitals).

I will be starting MD5 in Chicago with AUSOM this coming October. I can keep you updated in regards to any news I receive. My advice is, make a list of all the Q's you may have and call them directly at their office. They are always friendly and willing to answer any Q's you may have. Remember, we ARE in medical school. What we put in, is what we get out of it. Nothing in life comes easy and we may have to sweat these next few years in order to enjoy the rest of our lives.

The ICM at JPH is supposedly a joke. The hospital itself it already really bad but as an ICM student you're on the bottom of the bottom of the totem pole and no one takes time to teach you apparently.

The rotations are not in teaching hospitals except maybe one or two rotations

looool...since there are more Windsor students replying here, then AUSOM students, I think u should take whatever you read here with a grain of salt!. Wait till you meet AUSOM students in person and then go from there.

Other than that good luck with MD5!!. Doesn't matter what one says, its your own hard work that will make the ultimate difference. So all the best and screw the rest!..
