    Costs advice from those there

    Advertisements

    Hi All,

I have been trawling the forums for a while and have shorted my list of schools i want to apply to, could any one help me with some projected costs outside of tuition, esp housing. I want to attend next year and have been waiting for their Avicenna Database listing (its on there now btw for those intrested). Also there is mention of clinicals in UK? Any one know anything about that, I am a brit and am worried i would be screwed if I dont get a visa (B1 i think) to USA. Any help/advice is much appreciated. Thanks

I got an answer on another thread if any one wants to see. Any general comments about the school? Likes, dislikes, workload? Would be great for us future students.

Costs vary from student to student. Depends on which part of the town you want to live in. For example, Castries (which is near the school) is relatively cheaper. For housing there, you are looking at $$200-$400 depending on the place but keep in mind, you get out what you put in lol. I would say majority of the students live in Rodney Bay area. It has a great nearby mall with plenty of restaurants and shops and its the primary place of tourist attractions. My monthly rent is $600 US and I have a 2-bdrm 2.5 bath 2 story villa ( also a roommate) so together we pay $1200 US. More or less, majority of places will be around this price range but my advice to new students, come to the island few days before classes and BOOK a hotel for 2-3days in advance (MSG me and ill give you a list of them to chose from). Take this few days to shop around and find a place which would meet your needs the best. Personally, I highly recommend Rodney Bay area but everyone has their preferences. Again, if anyone needs help, I am just one message away. Take care and good luck!

    Hi,
How bad is Castries lol? I think that's where I might start living during MD1 since the price will be good for me. what's the difference between the $400 ones and the expensive ones? are utilities included or do you pay separate bills? Do they come with internet?
    Thank you!

Yes, in majority of the places will include water, internet, cable tv, but NOT ELECTRICITY (because of AC units). As far as castries goes, there are few students who live there but I personally would never. Just not my kind of area, but personal choices differ from person to person. Still, the same advice I have is to stay in a hotel in Rodney bay for 1-2nights (I stayed at the Coco Palm resort which was $80 per night) and shop around for a place! If you try and book a hotel in advance, you should get a good deal. In the end, that would be optimal in helping you figure out which place is most suitable for you.
