    AUSOM is Not Being Upfront

    Advertisements

I am trying to get information on this school and had a very discouraging discussion with the "Director of Operations" (DOO) in New York. The AUSOM website mentions a Board of Directors (BOD). I asked the DOO (a woman) who the BOD's were. Her response, "I don't know". This is supposedly the "Director of Operations"? I asked her who the owners were. Her response, "I don't know." I asked her if there was a company that owned AUSOM. Her reply, "I don't concern myself with such matters." So I am wondering if this woman looks at who signs her paycheck or whose account the check is drafted on? So this is a Director of Operations that does not know who is on the BOD, does not know who the owners of the school are, and does not know if a company owns the school? Let's take a vote: Is this woman lying? If you log onto the Department of State for New York, "Atlantic University School of Medicine" is not even a licensed entity doing business in the State of New York. So the question has to be asked, "Is this a scam?" There are some claims on the AUSOM website that the school is refusing to back up (the Board of Directors being one). Caribbean medical schools have a bad name and the behavior of this "DOO" in New York is just one reason why. I want this woman's job: you don't have to know anything to keep it and get paid! If I can find out any more information about this school, I will post it on this forum. For now, I would never consider going here until these people can show they are a legitimate operation and are willing to be transparent about it. In the meantime, if there is anyone out there that knows who sits on the BOD or who the owners are, or what company owns this school, please respond. Thanks.

Isn't it great when you get a post making false accusations. Why is it everyone in the school knows the answers to these questions, just another ploy (by you know who) to scare students........

Please if you want to use scare tactics tell everyone that we fail 80% of the class to charge them retake exam fees, or that we don't release grades until they pay their next semester's tuition, or we occupy their study time with coloring books, or (my favorite) we employ students to teach. You can do much better if you really try.........

Oh my gosh...some anonymous "AUSOM Official" calling me a liar! Okay, first go to the New York Department of State website and do a search in their recognized business entity database. Enter in "Atlantic University" or any combination...no such business entity as Atlantic University School of Medicine. Second of all, "AUSOM Official", if you are really honest, release the names of your Board of Directors and the names of the owners and or the company that owns the school. What is wrong with that? It's called being HONEST (of which you undoubetedly expect of your students...at least, I hope you do). So, are you "AUSOM Official" one in the same as the "Director of Operations" that said she "did not know" who the Board of Directors were, who the owners were and did not concern herself with the company that owned the school? Plus in an email to me, you said that no one associated with Windsor was on your Board or an owner of your school (Ah ha!, so you do know who the Board of Directors and owners are of the school or you would not have made such a statement!). So, are you lying? What's up with the PO Box in Island Park, NY? Don't you have a building with a street address? Where there is smoke, there is fire!

Nonstatusquo i'm still waiting for a specific hospital rotation they have secured, i also love the "semester 4" in the US thing they are apparently doing. they will learn soon enough that state medical boards won't take kindly to non-LCME training in the US. Basics done anywhere you can get a US or Canadian passport has to be LCME approved. See what happens.

I'm currently an AUSOM student. I'm apart of there first basic science class that started in JAN 2011. I transfered from Windsor last semester, so I have been with AUSOM for about 4 months now and I'm loving it.. I promise you one thing when I transferred to AUSOM I did a background check on this school and there financials since my uncle works for the government it was pretty easy... I wasn't going to transfer into a school without knowing a little about the school..That would be crazy and a big risk for my career. For "Nonstatusquo" I see you looked up there corporation name on the New York Department of State website. If you know anything about corporations, you don't have to be listed by the actual name..You can do business on another name.. For example Windsor.. Please go to the Illinois State website and do a search for Windsor University School of Medicine and see what you find.. Oops it says that name doesn't exist..I wonder why because they do business under ROYAL MEDICAL & TECHNICAL CONSULTANTS INC. Also I'm pretty sure that IMED and ECFMG require paperwork from the school's corporation for them to be listed and that have to be accredited. Opening a medical school isn't a 2 month thing.. It takes a few years of prior work to open a medical school or everyone would do it.. Also being at AUSOM I've never been charged extra on top of the tuition.. When they say $3800, they mean it..I used to pay hundreds of dollars on top of the tuition at Windsor..Bogus fees, I called the ministry of St. Kitts after I received no help from the school during the hurricane we had during one of our breaks. That $200 hurricane fee that Windsor implicated was a fee by the government of St. Kitts, the ministry told me that no such fee exists. Project 2400, please a joke.. I was never told what exactly project 2400 was..Its a mystery that I paid $75US for.. Also "medic300107", I'm pretty sure if they are moving MD4 to the states, they must have permission or some paperwork letting them do that..Why would they risk putting it in the states if it would cause trouble for the school..Unless you work for LCME I'm pretty sure you don't know all the rules and regulations..I have asked the school for some of there rotation spots and they having giving me some of the states where they have rotations. CT, LA, GA, IL, NY at VA hospitals since they don't have NY accreditation yet.. They won't disclose full names of hospitals because of the strict competition between Caribbean schools with rotations.. AUSOM does have students already in rotations since 2010 when they got accredited. The first basic science classes started in 2011 in Jan which I was apart of.. So don't believe any outsiders or a parasites from other schools. Please feel free to email at my yahoo email address- tiger2689 One last thing about the Board of Directors. There are five board of directors/investors at AUSOM. No one owns majority of the school so no one man show. I have met one of the board directors and his name is Dr. VT MD. It's not like Windsor's dictatorship. Also the school did have there professors listed on the website throughout last semester but it was taken off since they had changes in faculty members and needed to add new faculty. So shortly you will see them listed again..

Nice..The new list with the added faculty members looks really good.. For you Windsor students.. Go to Windsor's FrontPage made website and see if they list there professors credentials. When I was at Windsor I asked the admin for the credentials of the Faculty at Windsor and they told me to call Chicago office and they told me to talk to St. Kitts office so really no one knows if they are doctors or just all MD5 students or I guess at this point a bus driver. The only person I like there was Dr. V, he was probably the only real Doctor at Windsor. Also hes the only one that told you the truth.. Besides him don't trust anyone if you are still at Windsor..

as i posted in this or another thread i have emailed LCME to see if they have jurisdiction over a 4th semester basic sciences done in the US. If/when I get a response I will let you know. As for the hospital situation it just seems shady no one is willing to list even 1 hospital just "states" that rotations are available. Take it from an outsiders point of view, new school, says "we have all green book rotations, but we can't tell you exactly where...that would jeopardize our affiliations". Regardless of if they do have them or not it is a red flag to be told that.

Let me know.. I'll try to find out exactly how AUSOM is able to do this from the admin.. On another thread if you look, an AUSOM clinical student has listed some of the rotations she has done through AUSOM.. I have spoken to one of the clinical students she is going to let me know what she knows about clinical sites. I'll put one so people know they have a hospital they are affiliated with. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is the hospital they are affiliated for MD5.
