Dont ever look at "board passer" rates when choosing a school. They dont account for attrition rates, as well as the type of students they accept. Education in the Philippines is self-driven no matter where you go, and its up to you to study. Choose the school with the best enviroment, class schedule, and neighborhood, and price. Board passing rates are useless in the appraisal.

In my case i cant even register automatically with Malaysia unless I sit for an expensive exam.

It is strange that people keep stating medical education in Philippines is 5 and half years...It is actually misleading. The core Medical education in Philippines seems to be only 4 years without any internship or registration with Medical Council. Even if one wishes to go to the USA one would need to do some sort of clerkship to ensure they have the required hours of training.

the MD degree is given in the Philippines after you finish 4 years of medical education. 3 years in the classroom (covering basic and clinical sciences) then 1 year of hospital rotation covering pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, ob-gyne, psychiatry, orthopedics, ENT, family medicine (depending on the school). Once the MD title is given after graduation, you are called a doctor but it is not equivalent to a license to practice. You have to do another year of post-graduate internship to be able to take the board exams. Before graduation, we have something similar to a MATCH in the US where the 4th year students are allowed to choose which institutions to have 1 year of post-graduate internship in teaching hospitals.

So basically after graduation, we do 1 more year of post-graduate internship (can be paid or unpaid, depending on the instition), then we sit for the boards (Philippine licensure exam)--which is approximately 3-4 months of review. Once you pass the board exam, then that is when we are acknowledged as full-pledged physicians and able to practice and are registered in a medical council.

I don't know about the specifics regarding malaysians and doing post-graduate internships. But I know friends who are foreign nationals and who were able to do the post-graduate internships. And from what I know also, foreign nationals can take the philippine licensure exams though you have to provide additional documents.

    i hope that helps.
