Norman Bethune (Jilin) COM , China Medical University and Other China MBBS questions.

    Advertisements

Hi I am new to this forum and this is my first thread. I am considering applying to MBBS programs in China. I can see that there are multiple threads and posts on this topic, but I need some specific answers. I would very much appreciate any help on this.

I can see that there is a lot of discussion on Tianjin Medical University(TMU) and some discussion on Zhejiang University. I am interested in Jilin Univerity's Norman Bethune Medical School and China Medical University (CMU). Can anyone comment on these schools?

Do they have substantial numbers of international students? Indians? South Asians? Anyone studying there?

Anyone applied to these or other schools using *****? What is your experience? Does it work very well, or are the universities bureaucratic and do not respond ?

Chinese language- there seems to be conflicting information on chinese language requirements. Some are saying that HSK Level 1 is required to get a degree, others are saying it is required to do an internship in a chinese hospital, and some are saying it is not required at all, unless you want to do it voluntarily. So, is HSK Level 1 required for ENGLISH language MBBS students, specifically to get their degreee, and to do an internship.I do not know, but perhaps this requirement varies by university. Does anyone have informaiton on this requirement in Normal Bethune and China Medical University?

Anyone from Norman Bethune or China Medical University sitting for the Steps (USMLE 1,2?) what is your experience? Anyone who graduated from the ENGLISH language MBBS PROGRAMS practising in the US? SOme states restrict graduates from the MBBS in English programs from China (like California and Arakanasas) what about other states? New York? New Jersey?

What are the labs like? Opportunities for research? When are vacations, summer or winter?

the only one of your questions i can answer is about the HSK, by how things work at TMU. from what i have gathered and witnessed at TMU is that passing the HSK is an individual school requirement. when i took HSK the requirement was of level for intermediary, and we had to get an A on this. this was what the school designated as acceptable. But many students only got c's or b's, and the school accepted this. now from what i here is that the old standards or difficulty classifications have changed. i know that some students at our school have studied chinese one year before starting at TMU. these students do not have to take HSK. also there are students that are in there 5th year that are doing there internship, that have not passed HSK yet. so i believe that it is up to the individual school to set the HSK requirments, therefore you should directly check with whatever school you are applying.

as a whole most, students that are studying MBBS in china in english medium are from the indian subcontinent. although at TMU about 1/5 of the students are from africa or saudi. we have 20 or so americans which are of indian orgin.

the vacations at TMU are usually during this time of year from mid january to the middle or ending of feb, and the summer holidays are from mid july to usually end of august, these dates are about the same for all colleges in china, including non medical school. the labs at TMU are actually good, and i have spoken to some students from China medical, zhengzhou, and taishan, they all have mentioned that the labs are good (if you like killing cute rabbits and dogs).

at TMU i know there have been 2 or 3 students from the english program that are doing there residencies, i have never talked to them nor do i have there contact info.

one question i have is why are you considering norman bethune as a first choice to study medicine?

Hi Texas74. Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it. All that information is very useful. My first choice is CMU (China Medical University). Reasons are
    1. Can apply through *****. 2. Good ranking (from ***** website) and cheap a total of 50,000 dollars over 6 years inclusive of everything. Cheaper than for example fudan 75k.
I like very much what I see about TMU. But I don't want to apply through agents. TMU doesn't go through *****, and its online application system does not work. (The word document that is supposed to be the application is corrupted!!!).
Jilin University I want to keep as a backup. It is cheap for one thing, - very much so. I am also considering Sun Yat Sen which is taking applications for the MBBS program from 2011 through *****.
Thanks very much again for your help.

i think you applying only through ***** is a great and safe thing to do. CMU is supposed to be a good school, some students who transfered to TMU from CMU have said that the school is almost the same as TMU. from what i have gathered from talking to people and teachers from other schools in china, english programs are all about the same. its not surprising that the TMU online application is corrupted.

I know China Medical University (CMU)! It is one of the best medical universities in China. I heard it will move to the new campus in September. The facilities will be highly upgraded.
Now ***** and China Medical University will launch the promotion if students complete the application and pay the tuition of first year before July 31st 2013.
    Promotion:
1.The university will refund your Application fee
2.***** will pay your first year Insurance fee

google:"***** cmu early bird" to find more
