    Fudan University MBBS 2011

    Advertisements

So quite a few people have brought up the idea of creating a new thread for the 2011 entering batch at Fudan for the MBBS program, so here it is. (Last year's reached 300 posts!)

Feel free to post any questions and I'm sure those of us who are already in the program will be more than happy to answer them, or give you information on how to find your answer

Why Pakistani are not coming to Fudan and mostly they prefer Xian medical university. How much time usually does it take to learn basic chinese. How much money one should have in his pocket for his personal use a yeari.e., for food, washing, books etc. apart from what is paid for tution hostel accomodation. How many Pakistanis are there in medicines at Fudan.
As far as I know there is one Pakistani student in the 09 class (perhaps more in the 10 class). One of them comes on here from time to time, not sure if he's been coming lately.

I think more students may go to other universities because they use recruitment companies to recruit students, and wherever this recruitment company is, is where students are likely to be from. Our student population here is quite diverse, with a different mix every batch. Our inaugural class is pretty small, but diverse, with Americans, Canadians, Saudis, Malaysians, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Singaporean. The 09 class is also diverse, but with more from some countries than others - with a lot of Singaporeans and Thai, from what I remember.

Sorry I couldn't give more info on the Pakistani student situation, best of luck!

In terms of living cost, rent can be from 1500/month to 3000/month per person, depending on how you live. Food can also cost between around 10-100 a day, depending on how you eat. Including rent, I spend around 4000 or so a month. (1USD = 6.65RMB)

There are a lot of Thai kids in Fudan!!! I hope the number of kids in Fudan is fewer than that in other schools , such as Zhejiang.
I want to ask about the entrance exam.
Someone told me that the entrance exam and the interview are not compulsory. Is that true?

To Conway, your threads are very useful. Thank you so much XD

    Dear Conway
Tks a lot for ur quick response which is really appreciated. First of all let me salute u for the service ur rendering to new comers .Honestly speaking ur responses r so precious and important that one can decide his plans (though verfications and confirmations is must).
God bless u for ur efforts
.Here are few quries and concerns and Im sure u will spare few moments to respond them plss.
    1. How is the culture of campus? I mean smoking, drinking or similar type of non sense .Is there any check on such type of activities.
    2. Is it safe to move around in campus or off campus.
    3. What do u advise? one should stay in campus or off campus.
Dont be surprised. a young boy of 18 cant ask u such type of questions but I am the father of energetic who is asking u these question.
    kind regardsss

Hey Conway, thank you very much for your valueable info. I really mean it!!!

I have decided to come here next year to study medicine and I honestly can't wait to see what this new adventure brings me and my fellow class mates.

I have few questions if you don't mind

    1. What are the sports facilities like and can students play football (soccer) there? Is it close to the campus?

    2. How's Shanghai from a foreigner's perspective?

    3. Although I am keeping an open mind about where I want to work, can i practice in the UK (originally from Somalia but live in the UK)?

    thanks!

I think they send you an entrance exam paper when you apply and you need to complete it and send it back within one week of recieving it.

I've read various posts in the forum saying that it is a straight forward exam.

    Good luck

I'm not too sure about the interview/entrance exam, as things have changed since my cohort. I think it was compulsory for students in the 2010 batch. Might be better if someone from 09 or 10 classes answered this question...

Thanks for asking questions, but I think it may be better for your son to be engaged and asking these questions, or at least taking part in the conversation of all this; then he might actually feel a sense that he is participating in the entire process

Smoking and drinking seem to be rare among most students at our school, though a small minority do drink and/or smoke, though I don't think there is as much of a "party culture" here as there is in the US, for example.

It's very safe in both the main and medical campuses; the most problems I've heard of or experienced are related to the stealing of bicycles (by people from outside the campus). There are security cameras that cover most parts of campus, as well as 24-hour guards at the entrances. Shanghai is a very safe city in general, I've never felt unsafe, even out in the middle of the night.

I would recommending spending at least the first semester or year on campus to get to know classmates, and then moving off campus once you've found housemates.

Again, I'm glad a father asks such questions, but I think it'd be better if your son came and did this research for himself. Parents are very important in our lives, but sometimes if a parent plans everything for his child, it may be eventually harmful for his child. When I applied to Fudan, my parents took almost no role in my search for information

(Sorry, might've sidetracked a bit...just my two cents...)
