For those who interested in going to Philippines for medical school!

I m a third medical student at UST. I think there are many people wondering what is the main different between US cirrculum and Philippino cirrculum? In the process of studying for my step one rite now, i come to recognize the main different is simply this Phi medical school cirrculum focus on the What instead of the Why. What i mean is this: In Dr. Goljan's audio for patho, he mentioned over and over that to be successful in step one, u cant just memorize. You have to understand the why behind every mechanism. Unfortunately, in Philippines memorization is the key for medical school education. They emphasize on remembering facts after facts but the main concept and in depth understand is not a piority. Therefore, when their students study step one, they find it difficult because it's a new way of thinking. That is most of the students from philippines medical school have to take six months to prep for step one. I think if i have to do it over again- and Philippines is my only choice-I would start watching the kaplan video and listen to Goljan's audio since first year. Go to class but focus on Kaplan videos, which u can get if you know the rite people via boot legs hahaha. This wont help you to do well in school, but u will be better prepare when it's time to take step one. So ask around and get those kaplan videos and books, start your prereading and review since first year, you can do by subjects of the semenster like anatomy, physio, biochem. Do your prep early? Unlike me found out too late. So i hope this help clear up some confusion about Philippines medical school for anyone interested.

a few comments: 1) Actually the lower boundary for tuition fees in the Philippines for foreigners is $4000/year (for example Lyceum in Dagupan), thats including donation already. SWU in Cebu was $2500/year including all foreign fees, but I hear they will raise it - best contact them for an update on foreign fees. 2) Due to several reasons, I transferred to Perpetual in Laguna (they have another campus in Las Pinas). Its a decent school, I like the teaching, my fellow students, and the price is $5000/year. I will finish my 3d and 4th year there. 3) Im from New York City, and I've only lived in big cities before - Chicago, LA, etc. I STRONGLY DISAGREE with the view that Manila is the best place to study in the Philippines. In many ways, Manila represents the worst of the country - the worst in corruption, the worst in "crabby mentality", the worst in pollution, etc. Sure, you get a lot of foreign branded restaurants and supermalls there. But in the classroom, in your everyday life, friends in Manila are harder to make and strangers are less trustworthy. If you actually take the time to visit provincial Luzon, or even better - Cebu, or even more provincial schools like Silliman in Dumaguete (Negros island), or University of West Visayas in Iloilo City, you'll find the warmth of the people and the environment hard to resist. Im not saying that Manila schools are a bad choice, but they are a good choice IN SPITE of being in Manila, not BECAUSE of it.

Can you tell me about Davao Medical school and I heard that the college has good performance in Screening test in India? Also, which would be a better option to apply through consultant or direct admission?
